Get professional advice\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Lottery winners should put together a team of financial experts if they\u2019ve won a large prize, Mega Millions advises.<\/p>\n<p>The lottery board recommends that winners look into resources,\u00a0financial planning tools and personal specialists from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, a national professional organization that has more than 428,000 CPAs affiliated with it.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers and financial advisers may also be worth consideration, according to State Farm Insurance.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Keep_that_ticket_safe\"><\/span><strong>3. Keep that ticket safe!<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Lottery winners should make \u201cseveral copies\u201d of their winning ticket, according to State Farm. Protect your privacy<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Lottery winners should keep their winning private before they turn in a ticket, State Farm advises.<\/p>\n<p>Winners should also be prepared to change their contact information. This is because many lotteries share names or require interviews or press conference participation for transparency reasons.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u201cBe sure to change your phone number and set up a new P.O. box beforehand to avoid being inundated with requests,\u201d State Farm writes.<\/p>\n<p>The insurance company notes that some winners might be able to form a blind trust through their attorney, so that winnings can be anonymously received.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Create_a_plan_for_the_money\"><\/span><strong>5. Put off making big decisions<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Winning a few million dollars might tempt any person to make a big purchase or lifestly change\u00a0\u2014 but private wealth managers at Cresset Capital advise against this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou need to consider how your employment contributes to your sense of self and your mental well-being,\u201d Cresset Capital says in its \u201cWhat To Do (And Not Do) If You Win The Lottery\u201d article.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of choosing early retirement or making some other dramatic move, the Chicago-based financial planning firm says lottery winners might want to consider taking on part<strong>\u2013<\/strong>time jobs or engaging in higher education, volunteer work or passion-filled hobbies.<\/p>\n<p>Cresset Capital also cautions lottery winners against \u201cbecoming an ATM for family and friends in order to avoid jeopardizing financial plans early on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not to say that you should keep all of the money for yourself, but take time to consider how and when you want to give so that you do not become resentful or end up being used for your wealth,\u201d the firm writes.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"7_Question_whether_you_should_take_a_lump_sum\"><\/span><strong>7.
