Predictably, none of the tabloids ever mentioned that Gardner was often subjected to physical violence and sexual harassment by Hollywood heavyweights.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">By 1963, Huston had been <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/books\/edition\/Ava_Gardner\/ZBk9DQAAQBAJ?hl=en&amp;gbpv=1&amp;bsq=%22fascinated%20by%20ava%22\">obsessed<\/a> with Gardner for years, and wanted her to play Maxine in his upcoming film, &#8220;The Night of the Iguana.&#8221; The film was based on a play by Tennessee Williams, who often wrote emotionally vulnerable characters that required Oscar-worthy performances, and the actress wasn&#8217;t sure she was up for the task.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In typical fashion, Huston refused to take no for an answer and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/books\/edition\/Deborah_Kerr\/pTP06LksISkC?hl=en&amp;gbpv=1&amp;bsq=flew%20to%20madrid%20to%20convince%20ava\">went<\/a> to her home in Madrid to convince her.
