\n Former Queens Borough President Claire Shulman, the first woman elected to the position, died on Sunday. She was 94.<\/p>\n

Shulman, who served the office from 1986 to 2002, was battling lung and pancreatic cancer, her family told QNS.com.<\/p>\n

The former borough president died at home surrounded by her family.<\/p>\n

Politicians around the city reacted to Shulman\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cClaire Shulman was larger-than-life,\u201d interim Queens Borough President Sharon Lee said.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe transformed the landscape of the City\u2019s largest borough, and so much of what we see and enjoy today are the results of her extraordinary vision and decisions made over 18 years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

City Comptroller Scott Stringer said, \u201cClaire Shulman was a trailblazer and someone who embodied Queens to her core. She will be deeply missed.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
