Since then, MSTR has grown by 142% versus Nasdaq&#8217;s 26.81% gains in the same period.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-08\/26e6bd7a-c756-4866-8cfc-9e0398c1fbb4.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>MSTR daily price chart. Source: TradingView<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bad_Q2_Saylors_resignation\"><\/span>Bad Q2, Saylor&#8217;s resignation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Aug. 3 MSTR rally came a day after MicroStrategy <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.microstrategy.com\/en\/investor-relations\/events-presentations\/q2-2022-financial-results-webinar-recording\">reported a billion dollar loss<\/a> in its second quarter (Q2) earnings call. Interestingly, the company&#8217;s major Bitcoin exposure was a large reason for its poor quarterly performance.<\/p>\n<p>To recap: MicroStrategy is an information <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> firm that provides\u00a0business intelligence, mobile software and cloud-based services. But one of its primary corporate strategies is to invest in Bitcoin to hold it long-term.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, holding Bitcoin has cost MicroStrategy an impairment loss of\u00a0$917.84 million from its<strong> <\/strong>129,698 BTC holdings<strong> <\/strong>in Q2, primarily due to the crypto&#8217;s 50% year-to-date (YTD) price drop. In comparison, MSTR plunged 42% in the same period.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-08\/962208aa-a770-4a6c-aa72-c1094fda5b89.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>BTC\/USD daily price chart. Source: TradingView<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Furthermore, MicroStrategy&#8217;s revenue fell 2.6% year-over-year to\u00a0$122.07 million. The net quarterly losses prompted Saylor\u2014who has strongly backed the Bitcoin investment strategy since August 2020\u2014to quit as the firm&#8217;s CEO and become an executive chairman.<\/p>\n<p>MSTR responded positively to Saylor&#8217;s resignation and the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointment of\u00a0Phong Le, president of MicroStrategy, as his replacement, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/ask\/answers\/010815\/how-does-change-ceo-impact-stock-price.asp\">suggesting<\/a> that investors are comfortable with the change in leadership.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Whats_next_for_MSTR\"><\/span>What&#8217;s next for MSTR?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>MSTR&#8217;s course for the remainder of 2022 depends largely on Bitcoin&#8217;s performance, given their consistently positive correlation in recent years. But several metrics are hinting at a correction ahead.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-08\/871502c4-0495-44d9-b16c-221a9ae2a295.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>The weekly correlation coefficient between MSTR and BTC\/USD. Source: TradingView<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For instance, MicroStrategy&#8217;s enterprise value-to-revenue (EV\/R) ratio was at 10.76 on Aug. 3, or in &#8220;overvalued&#8221; territory.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, MSTR&#8217;s forward price-to-earnings (P\/E) ratio <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/quote\/MSTR\/key-statistics\/\">has reached 54.95<\/a>, more than double the market average of 20\u201325. In other words, the market expects MicroStrategy to show enormous future earnings growth despite its underperformance in recent quarters.<\/p>\n<p>MicroStrategy also has amassed\u00a0$2.4 billion in long-term debts with $46.6 million in interest expenses. Therefore, the company could find it unable to meet its debt obligations if it continues to suffer losses at the current pace.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-08\/fb85a872-9180-407b-be30-51164eca327c.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>MSTR long-term debt table. Source: S&amp;P Capital IQ<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In other words, MicroStrategy could pledge its nearly $2 billion worth of Bitcoin holdings as collateral or sell them to raise capital.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related:\u00a0A brief history of Bitcoin crashes and bear markets: 2009\u20132022<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nonetheless, crypto and MSTR bulls may remain invested,&#8221; <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/seekingalpha.com\/article\/4524205-microstrategy-drastic-correction-imminent\">noted<\/a>\u00a0Juxtaposed Ideas, a Seeking Alpha contributor, in its latest analysis, saying that most\u00a0are willing to &#8220;gamble on Bitcoin&#8217;s eventual recovery to $40,000&#8221; or beyond by 2023 or 2024.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;That would be a positive catalyst for its future stock recovery, returning some much-needed capital to the highly volatile investment.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"post-content__disclaimer\">The views and opinions expressed here are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Cointelegraph.com.
