operator of One Medical health clinics, Amazon.com Inc. said it would be making another deal, this time for Roomba maker iRobot Corp.. <\/p>\n<p> The e-commerce giant plans to buy iRobot<br \/>\n        IRBT,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/206937768\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+19.32%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       for $61 a share in cash, in a deal that values the maker of robotic cleaning products at about $1.7 billion, including debt.  <\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       Shares of iRobot were up 19.1% in Friday morning trading to a recent $59.54. The stock closed Thursday at $49.99. Amazon\u2019s stock<br \/>\n        AMZN,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210331248\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-1.30%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       was off 0.3% Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver many years, the iRobot team has proven its ability to reinvent how people clean with products that are incredibly practical and inventive\u2014from cleaning when and where customers want while avoiding common obstacles in the home, to automatically emptying the collection bin,\u201d Amazon Devices senior vice president Dave Limp said in a release. \u201cCustomers love iRobot products\u2014and I\u2019m excited to work with the iRobot team to invent in ways that make customers\u2019 lives easier and more enjoyable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amazon didn\u2019t specify future plans for iRobot in the release, but it\u2019s likely that the company has bigger plans in store beyond selling robotic vacuums, as iRobot also makes smart-home devices and m<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ing and navigation products. <\/p>\n<p>The e-commerce giant\u00a0\u201ccontinues to put the pieces together for a fully-integrated smart home, which includes smart appliances, smart speakers, smart plugs, smart thermostats, smart lightbulbs, smart doors\/locks, etc.,\u201d Baird analyst Colin Sebastian wrote. \u201cWe\u2019d like to see an automated lawn mower as well.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Amazon\u2019s ambitions seem to be growing more <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly, after executives announced in late July that the company planned to acquire One Medical, which operates as 1Life Healthcare Inc.<br \/>\n        ONEM,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205852497\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.14%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       in a deal valued at $3.9 billion including debt. That announcement had analysts speculating about possible new Prime benefits, though it also concerned privacy advocates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is worth noting that this would be Amazon\u2019s 4th largest deal of all time, assuming the recent acquisition of OneMedical goes through,\u201d Bernstein analyst Mark Shmulik said in a note to clients. \u201cThis lends credence to the narrative that with lower valuations in the overall market, Amazon is opening its purse strings to go discount shopping.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As of Thursday\u2019s closing price, iRobot\u2019s stock had tumbled 41.8% over the previous 12 months, while the S&amp;P 500 index<br \/>\n        SPX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210599714\/realtime\" class=\"negative\">-0.66%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       had slipped 5.7%.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, iRobot said it would lay off 140 employees, or about 10% of its workforce, as part of a cost-cutting plan aimed at saving up to $10 million this year and up to $40 million in 2023.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>The company also reported a second-quarter net loss that widened to $43.4 million, or $1.60 a share, from $2.8 million, or 10 cents a share, in the same period a year ago.
