Last year, a\u00a0long-stalled investigation revealed\u00a0that\u00a0Maspeth High School\u00a0in Queens repeatedly faked passing grades. In 2020, at Brooklyn\u2019s\u00a0Cobble Hill High School where more than 70% of the students were failing, the principal was secretly recorded instructing teachers to just pass kids.\u00a0This h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ens not just at isolated failing schools; data on middle schools show widespread\u00a0grade fraud in New York City public schools, and\u00a0the worst often occur in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/spectator.org\/mathgate-new-york-city-mayor-bill-de-blasio-caught-in-massive-grade-fraud-scandal\/\">predominantly black communities<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>One such school is the Eagle Academy for Young Men of Harlem, where in 8<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0grade, 95% of students failed Math proficiency according to New York State standardized testing, but the school passed 93.9% of them in that subject. The founder and former head of the Eagle Academy network, David Banks, is now Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education. G&amp;T programs, originally tailored to academically advanced students selected by standardized testing, now accept anyone; they are\u00a0Potemkin G&amp;Ts. <\/p>\n<p>Acclaimed\u00a0middle and\u00a0high schools that offered rigorous academics to carefully matched students \u2014 selected in part by standardized testing \u2014 must dumb down because they now admit by lottery. And families who drew poorly in the admissions lottery\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.singtaousa.com\/2022-06-27\/%E8%8F%AF%E4%BA%BA%E5%AE%B6%E9%95%B7%E5%93%AD%E8%A8%B4%E5%AD%A9%E5%AD%90%E6%B2%92%E5%AD%B8%E4%B8%8A-%E5%9C%98%E9%AB%94%E7%B1%B2%E6%95%99%E8%82%B2%E5%B1%80%E9%87%8D%E5%81%9A%E9%AB%98%E4%B8%AD%E9%8C%84\/4144738#page2\">are in tears<\/a> as their children are assigned schools they\u2019ve never heard of before, hours away from home. We need school choice, so families can\u00a0vote with their feet as educrats continue to lie while\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=iVdQtLASnQs&amp;t=531s\">robbing their children of an education<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But the status quo of Potemkin schools is\u00a0protected by teachers\u2019 unions, which <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wskg.org\/state-teachers-union-rallies-against-standardized-tests\/\">don\u2019t give one whit<\/a>\u00a0that a transcript full of A\u2019s is a lie. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/08\/david-banks.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Former Eagle principal (and founder) David Banks is now the Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education. Banks has done away with standardized tests in many NYC public schools. <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Michael Brochstein\/SOPA Images\/Shutterstock<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s no secret that teachers unions\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/teachers-unions-support-biden-reopening-schools-political\">get their way<\/a> because of their\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/blog\/brown-center-chalkboard\/2019\/06\/05\/teacher-unions-may-be-more-important-than-ever-in-2020\/\">stranglehold over the Democratic Party<\/a>. \u201cI sleep with a NEA member every night,\u201d quipped President Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Except for <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/politicsny.com\/2020\/04\/28\/chinese-american-advocates-blast-lack-of-city-gifted-talented-programs\/\">a minority of courageous Democrats<\/a>, it is impossible to dodge the reality that the fight to dismantle Potemkin schools is a partisan fight, with the Democratic mainstream on the wrong side of the issue. \u02c6<\/p>\n<p>The big question for parents in this deep blue city in this deep blue state is: dare parents cast off their deep-seated voting habits and translate their anger against Potemkin schools into\u00a0<em>issue-driven voting<\/em>\u00a0in November? Parents did it in Virginia.
