It was originally a small AutoHotKey script written by an AutoHotKey forum-goer named <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.autohotkey.com\/forum\/post-147849.html#147849\">Lexikos<\/a>. We\u2019ve spruced it up a bit and compiled it so that you don\u2019t need to have AutoHotKey installed. If you do have <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/autohotkey.com\">AutoHotKey<\/a> installed, we\u2019ve included the original script in the download so that you can tweak it to your liking.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Download_and_Run_Keyboard_Locker\"><\/span>Download and Run Keyboard Locker<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To get started, go ahead and download Keyboard Locker. Unzip the Keyboard Locker folder wherever you want to keep it on your hard drive. and open\u00a0the Keyboard Locker folder. You\u2019ll see a number of files inside. These include some icon files and a readme, but the important two files are \u201cKeyboardLocker.exe\u201d and \u201cKeyboardLocker.ahk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-287866 size-large\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/wdk_1-650x331.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"The Keyboard Locker executable and script. \" width=\"640\" height=\"326\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>If you do not have AutoHotKey installed, you\u2019ll need to double-click \u201cKeyboardLocker.exe\u201d to run it. This file is an AutoHotKey script compiled to run as a standalone program,\u00a0so that you don\u2019t need AutoHotKey to use it.<\/p>\n<p>If you already use AutoHotKey, you can use the \u201cKeyboardLocker.ahk\u201d file instead to run the script directly. The advantage of using the script version is that, if you\u2019re familiar with AutoHotKey, you can edit the script yourself to change the shortcuts for locking and unlocking your keyboard.<\/p>\n<p>When you launch Keyboard Locker,\u00a0you\u2019ll see a small keyboard icon appear in your notification area. You can do this by dragging the file to the startup folder with your right mouse button and choosing \u201cCreate shortcut here\u201d or by right-clicking anywhere in the startup folder and choosing New &gt; Shortcut from the context menu.
