They\u2019re more versatile and easier to handle than their wired counterparts. It\u2019s a nice, fairly standard spread with the utilities you need to charge it.<\/p>\n<p>Unassuming and visually muted, these Skullcandy headphones don\u2019t stand out from the crowd. The earbuds are small, each about the size of the tip of my thumb. Unfortunately, they\u2019re so small that operating them is a bit of a pain. They don\u2019t have any trouble sitting idle in my ear, but they would frequently slip out if I tried to adjust the sound or pause a song.<\/p>\n<p>The charging case is similarly bland, but in contrast to the earbuds, it is surprisingly large. It\u2019s also entirely black, void of any design accents save for the little Skullcandy logo on the front. They\u2019re not so big that they won\u2019t fit in your pocket, but with the earbuds being so small, it\u2019d be nice if the case followed suit. Ultimately, the Skullcandy Mod XTs are competently made, even if they\u2019re visually dull.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Speedy_Charging_Case\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"moka_anchor_ASpeedyChargingCase\">A Speedy Charging Case<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"greybox_callout\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Total battery life: <\/strong>34 Hours<\/li>\n<li><strong>Charging: <\/strong>USB-C<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>More on the charging case\u2014it\u2019s speedy. For every five minutes of charging, you can get about an hour of play out of your earbuds (with rapid charging). The case will get you about 34 hours of playtime in all and is chargeable with a USB-C cable (which is thankfully included in the box). This is a roughly $60 wireless earbud with a case with charging speeds that rival something like <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewgeek.com\/117313\/audio-technica-ath-cks50tw-review\/\">Audio Technica\u2019s ATH-CKS50TW, which sits at a far higher price of $149.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a significant detail that should be respected, as while your sound might not match something of higher quality, your earbuds will at least be fast to charge.<\/p>\n<p>The charging state is noted on the earbuds themselves (they\u2019ll light up red when charging). The case doesn\u2019t have any such indicator, which is a bit of a bummer. Still, it\u2019s not that hard to flip open the top to check on your earbuds.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fully_Featured_at_Half_Price\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_2\">Fully Featured at Half Price<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Skullcandy Mod XT\u2019s features are above the norm for its price range. For starters, the Skullcandy Mod XT supports <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/297281\/how-to-connect-your-bluetooth-headphones-to-more-than-one-device-at-a-time\/\">multipoint pairing<\/a>, something that\u2019s becoming increasingly common in the wireless earbuds of today. Using multipoint pairing, you\u2019ll be able to link your buds to two different devices at once. This is nice to have, even if it goes unused. It\u2019s helpful around the office, or anywhere your hands are tied.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from that, it has your usual spread of features. Each of the buds has a smart microphone that filters out background noise. The microphone in each ear is a convenient addition that sounds impressive for a $60 pair of earbuds, but also feels relatively standard when compared to other options. The Skullcandy Mod XTs also support hear-through functionality whenever you want to stay aware of your surroundings.<\/p>\n<p>All of this and the equalizer works with the Skullcandy app (available on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/skullcandy\/id1466689851?at=1010l392g&amp;ct=rg123963\">iPhone<\/a> and<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=app.skullcandy&amp;hl=en_US&amp;gl=US\"> Android<\/a>). The application is your go-to for controlling many of the Mod XT\u2019s features. They\u2019re laid out in a fairly plain manner. It\u2019s not too much of a hassle to edit settings, allowing for fine-tuning of features like \u201cStay-Aware mode\u201d (what Skullcandy calls \u201chear-through\u201d or transparent hearing) along with the functionality of each button.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Budget_Sound_Quality\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_3\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"moka_anchor_CheapSound\">Budget Sound Quality<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"greybox_callout\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Driver diameter:<\/strong> 6mm<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sound pressure level:<\/strong> 95dB\u00b13dB<\/li>\n<li><strong>Impedance:<\/strong> 16\u03a9\u00b115%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>Now, the sound quality of the Mod XTs is easily its worst point. While not egregious, the Mod XTs certainly sound like they\u2019re $60. They\u2019re weak and somewhat limp, and while the equalizer does try to pull some definition out of the noise, I could never find a drastic improvement.<\/p>\n<p>Every sound issue you could imagine is here to some degree\u2014a sound profile with a muddy middle ground, weak highs and lows, and a lack of definition. However, they\u2019re still better than many other earbuds at lower price points, so I don\u2019t think you\u2019re getting ripped off here; the earbuds just sound like their price.<\/p>\n<p>On the flip side, the microphone in each earbud is surprisingly straightforward and does a decent job of killing the clutter. The big blemish here is the actual quality of each\u2014 they\u2019re noticeably worse than things in a higher price bracket. The Mod XTs don\u2019t even have noise canceling, a feature that could\u2019ve helped out some of the earbuds\u2019 lackluster audio.<\/p>\n<p>The shining point is that, while those options aren\u2019t as strong as more expensive brands, they\u2019re here. The $60 price point is such an astonishing drop in price, and it alone makes the Skullcandy Mod XTs a valuable option to those searching for wireless headphones that don\u2019t break the bank. Audiophiles will want to shell out a few extra dollars and purchase something with a more robust sound profile, while others will find the drop in audio quality palatable for the price.<\/p>\n<p>Not to mention, you get a charging case with some astonishing speed. Use your earbuds, pop them back in the charger, and after 10 minutes, you\u2019ll have another 2 hours of playtime. There aren\u2019t many optioins in this price bracket that can do that.<\/p>\n<p>So, if sound is the most important thing to you, I\u2019d suggest dodging the Mod XTs and looking elsewhere, maybe a more expensive model like the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Bose-QuietComfort-Noise-Cancelling-Earbuds\/dp\/B08C4KWM9T\/?tag=reviewgeekreviews-20\">Bose Quiet Comfort Noise Cancelling Earbuds<\/a>. However, if you\u2019re looking for the versatility of a wireless earbud, the Skullcandy Mod XTs bring so much of that at an astonishingly low price.
