It truly offers a flagship experience for just $450. But now, developer @TheLunarixus claims that the\u00a0Pixel 6a\u00a0<em>can<\/em> run at 90Hz with some detailed software modifications.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the short of it; according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheLunarixus\/status\/1557363298835767297\">@TheLunarixus<\/a>, the Pixel 6a uses Samsung\u2019s S6E3FC3 display panel. This is the same panel Google uses in the standard Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, and it supports a maximum 120Hz refresh rate.<\/p>\n<p>In reality, the \u201cS6E3FC3\u201d is <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Za_Raczke\/status\/1557478849272848385\">a display\u00a0<em>controller<\/em><\/a>, not a display panel. This controller was incorrectly identified as a display panel in a review by\u00a0<em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.xda-developers.com\/google-pixel-6a-review\/\">XDA Developers<\/a><\/em>\u2014it seems that\u00a0@TheLunarixus either read\u00a0<em>XDA<\/em>\u2018s review or misidentified the\u00a0S6E3FC3 when looking through the Pixel 6a\u2019s drivers.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Since the Pixel 6 and 6a have very similar display panels, and since that panel already runs at 90Hz on other devices, dev <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheLunarixus?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TheLunarixus<\/a> tried to get the Pixel 6a running at 2400\u00d71080 @ 90Hz, same as the Pixel 6. I can tell you the mod is legit, but there are a LOT of caveats rn. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/upUbsakoHP\">https:\/\/t.co\/upUbsakoHP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Mishaal Rahman (@MishaalRahman) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MishaalRahman\/status\/1557450020361838598?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 10, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Nevertheless, @TheLunarixus is sharing\u00a0photos and videos of the Pixel 6a running at 90Hz. And Esper\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MishaalRahman\/status\/1557450025290039309\">Mishaal Rahman<\/a>\u00a0confirms that\u00a0@TheLunarixus\u2019 modified boot image unlocks a\u00a02400\u00d71080 90Hz display mode. (That said, the 90Hz mode doesn\u2019t work on Rahman\u2019s phone.)<\/p>\n<p>One of two things may be h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ening here. If we\u2019re lucky, the Pixel 6a\u2019s display is made to run at a high refresh rate. A software modification, which is now in the works, could unlock a 90Hz refresh rate and push the budget device to a new level.<\/p>\n<p>But we don\u2019t know which display the Pixel 6a uses. We only know that its display controller is capable of operating at a high refresh rate. This modification may simply overclock the Pixel 6 display, which (as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Za_Raczke\/status\/1557478857120403461\">Kuba Wojciechowski<\/a> notes) could easily damage the phone\u2019s display panel.<\/p>\n<p>As of August 11th, @TheLunarixus\u2019 Pixel 6a is working fine. The developer reports no ghosting, overheating, or other issues. It seems that we have a mystery on our hands, and all we can do is wait and see what happens.<\/p>\n<p>I suggest that you avoid this mod until we know more about the Pixel 6a\u2019s display. But if you want to turn your $450 smartphone into a guinea pig, keep an eye on\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheLunarixus\">@TheLunarixus\u2019 Twitter account<\/a>.
