Tim Scott (R-SC) without first getting <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roval from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).<\/p>\n<p>Bari Weiss, who resigned from the Gray Lady two years ago citing \u201cbullying\u201d as well as an \u201cilliberal environment\u201d for those with right-leaning views, made the allegation during an interview with Scott on her <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/the-senates-only-black-republican-says-stop-being\/id1570872415?i=1000575630364\">popular podcast \u201cHonestly with Bari Weiss.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Weiss\u2019 comments were <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/politics\/bari-weiss-tells-senator-tim-scott-about-a-behind-the-scenes-fight-at-the-new-york-times-over-an-op-ed-he-submitted\/\">reported by the news site Mediaite.<\/a> The Post has reached out to the Times seeking comment.<\/p>\n<p>During the interview, Weiss recalled a discussion among senior Times editors surrounding an op-ed submitted by Scott in the aftermath of the May 2020 police-involved slaying of George Floyd, the 46-year-old black man, in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/08\/schumer-weiss-scott-82.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Bari Weiss quit the New York Times two years ago because of what she says was &quot;bullying&quot; and an &quot;illiberal environment.&quot;\" class=\"wp-image-23424409\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/08\/schumer-weiss-scott-82.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/08\/schumer-weiss-scott-82.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/08\/schumer-weiss-scott-82.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Bari Weiss quit the New York Times two years ago because of what she says was \u201cbullying\u201d and an \u201cilliberal environment.\u201d<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to Weiss, Scott\u2019s office asked the Times to publish an op-ed about a piece of police reform legislation that the senator was working on called the Justice Act.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed bill by Scott, who is the only black Republican in the US Senate, failed to pass due to Democratic opposition. Scott told Weiss that the \u201cDemocrats really wanted the issue more than the solution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, here\u2019s what happened,\u201d Weiss told Scott. \u201cAnd this is the part I\u2019m not sure if you know. Tim Scott (R-SC) on her podcast.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Bloomberg via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Weiss continued: \u201cAnd one colleague, a more senior colleague said to a more junior colleague who was pushing for the piece, \u2018Do you think the Republicans really care about minority rights?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWow,\u201d Scott said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the more junior colleagues said, \u2018I think Tim Scott cares about minority rights\u2019,\u201d Weiss said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then, and here\u2019s the pretty shocking part. The more senior colleague said, \u2018Let\u2019s check with Sen. Schumer before we run it\u2019,\u201d Weiss said.<\/p>\n<p>She added that the younger colleague refused to reach out to Schumer due to ethics concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Scott\u2019s op-ed was never published.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you surprised to hear that? Or does that story feel kind of representative of the way the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> has treated you and maybe some of your colleagues?\u201d Weiss asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am disappointed to hear that. I am not surprised to hear that. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) calling for a military response to widespread rioting in the wake of Floyd\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>The outrage prompted the newspaper\u2019s editorial page editor at the time, James Bennet, to resign.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
