But it was once considered the largest retailer in the world. Together with Kmart there were about 6,000 stores altogether.<\/p>\n<p>The settlement is \u201ca pittance of what I believe Lampert and his associates should be asked to pay,\u201d said Mark Cohen, director of retail studies at Columbia University\u2019s business school as well as the former chief executive of Sears Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Lampert was known for selling off the retailer\u2019s real estate assets to entities that he controlled and then collecting rent from the stores.\u00a0\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
