There are plenty of fancy gadgets for running out there, but what do you actually need? What data do you want to track and record?<\/p>\n<p>These questions are important because running serves a different purpose for everyone. If you are simply running just to run\u2014for exercise or mental health\u2014your \u201cstats\u201d are probably not important. You can simply tie up your shoes and go.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s say you\u2019re running to lose weight. The number you probably care about the most is your weight, and a fitness tracker isn\u2019t a scale. Maybe you just enjoy running as an activity to get outside. A fitness tracker wouldn\u2019t necessarily improve that experience. In fact, it could take you out of your moment of Zen.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, if you\u2019re training for an event or you have a specific goal in mind, tracking yourself can be a big help. Seeing your progress can be motivating, and you might just find the data cool to look at. Does that mean you need a fitness tracker? Technically, your smartphone is also a fitness tracker, just a little more limited.<\/p>\n<p>Any iPhone or Android phone can be used as a basic fitness tracker. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/apple-health\/id1242545199?at=1010l392g&amp;ct=htg823672\">Apple Health<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/fit\/\">Google Fit<\/a>, and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/deeplink?id=2QzUaswX1as&amp;mid=47773&amp;u1=htg\/823672|xid:{xid}&amp;murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.samsung.com%2Fglobal%2Fgalaxy%2Fapps%2Fsamsung-health%2F&amp;___trxnet=ls\">Samsung Health<\/a> can track running and other activities. You just need to tap \u201cStart\u201d and put the phone in your pocket.<\/p>\n<p>A lot of the data you might be interested in can easily be recorded without a device on your wrist. The many sensors in your phone are more than capable of recording distance, elevation, duration, and location. Other things, like calories burned, use personal information (weight, height, etc.) for calculations.<\/p>\n<p>For basic fitness tracking, a smartphone can do more than you might think. It\u2019s a great place to start, and you can figure out what data you care about. First, a phone isn\u2019t going to be quite as accurate as a smartwatch in some areas. Like your phone, there are a lot of sensors at work, and having a device that moves with your arms provides a little more data.<\/p>\n<p>Second, there are some things that are simply not possible for a phone to do. A phone in your pocket can\u2019t measure your heart rate or VO2 max while you run. Those can be important metrics if you\u2019re serious about running, and fitness <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>s can do some pretty cool things with that data.<\/p>\n<p>One of the biggest benefits of a dedicated fitness tracker is the form factor. It\u2019s much, much easier to look at your wrist than it is to pull out a phone mid-run. Plus, if your <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Samsung-Smartwatch-Monitor-Tracker-Detection\/dp\/B096BLVKDT\/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?tag=hotoge-20\">watch has a cellular connection<\/a>, you can leave your phone at home.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>, a fitness tracker is simply <em>more<\/em>. They can track more things and provide more data that might be useful for your goals. It\u2019s similar to using Spotify for free vs. paying for Premium. Spotify is perfectly usable for free, but if you use it a lot, the Premium benefits are worth the price. If you\u2019re serious about running, a fitness tracker is a good investment.<\/p>\n<p>If you decide to make the jump, you\u2019ll need to decide which kind of fitness tracking device you want. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Fitbit-Advanced-Management-Tracking-Included\/dp\/B09BXDZ9BD\/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ots=1&amp;slotNum=2&amp;imprToken=aac13543-1c4f-3977-02c&amp;tag=hotoge-20\">Fitbits<\/a> are popular for being affordable and chock full of fitness features. There are many great fitness trackers, and most smartwatches also have fitness tracking.
