If that\u2019s the case, it won\u2019t work.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a newer Apple TV remote (called a \u201cSiri Remote\u201d), use the Lightning connector on the bottom edge of the remote and a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Apple-MQUE2AM-A-Lightning-Cable\/dp\/B07CPS16L4\/?tag=hotoge-20\">Lightning-to-USB cable<\/a> to plug it into a power source, such as a Mac or a USB wall adapter. Let it charge for 30 minutes (a full charge takes about <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/guide\/tv\/charge-the-siri-remote-atvb7d4de50d\/tvos\">three hours<\/a>). After 30 minutes, try using the remote again.<\/p>\n<p>If you have an older Apple TV remote, you won\u2019t find a Lightning port on the bottom edge. To restart while the remote isn\u2019t working, unplug your Apple TV from the power outlet and wait 15 seconds. To restart an older remote, remove the battery and put it back in.<\/p>\n<p>To restart a Siri Remote, first get a clear view of the Apple TV unit itself so you can see the light on the front. With remote in hand, press and hold the TV icon button and the volume down button simultaneously for around five seconds until you see the status light on the Apple TV unit turn off and back on again.<\/p>\n<p>Next, release the buttons and wait about ten seconds. You\u2019ll see a \u201cConnection Lost\u201d message on your TV. Your Siri Remote is restarting. When the process is complete, you\u2019ll see a connection notification on your TV set.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Unpair_and_Re-Pair_Your_Remote\"><\/span>Unpair and Re-Pair Your Remote<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If everything else didn\u2019t work, it\u2019s possible that your Apple TV remote has become unpaired. By default, the remote arrives synced with your Apple TV when you first purchase the Apple TV. But if it gets disconnected (or you\u2019ve replaced it), you\u2019ll have to connect it to your Apple TV manually.<\/p>\n<p>To pair your Apple TV remote, place it 3-4 inches away from the main Apple TV unit (the device plugged into power and HDMI). What you do next depends on the type of remote you have.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you have a <strong>1st gen Siri Remote<\/strong> (black with the large touchpad), press and hold the volume up button and the \u201cMenu\u201d button for five seconds.<\/li>\n<li>If you have the <strong>2nd gen Siri Remote<\/strong> (silver with round directional control), press and hold the volume up button and the back button (\u201c&lt;\u201c) for five seconds.<\/li>\n<li>If you have an <strong>older Apple TV remote<\/strong>, hold the \u201cMenu\u201d button and the left arrow for six seconds. It will unlink. After that, hold the \u201cMenu\u201d button and the right arrow for six seconds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the pairing is successful, you\u2019ll see a message on the screen. It\u2019s worth nothing that you can only connect one Siri Remote to an Apple TV at a time. When you connect a Siri Remote, any other connected remote will be disconnected.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"If_All_Else_Fails\"><\/span>If All Else Fails<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019ve done everything listed above and you\u2019re still having problems with your Apple TV remote, you have a few options. First, you could <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/getsupport.apple.com\/\">contact Apple Customer Service<\/a>.
