It\u2019s been my go-to relaxation game over the past month or so, and it\u2019s honestly giving <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stardewvalley.net\/\"><em>Stardew Valley<\/em><\/a> a run for its money.<\/p>\n<p>Released in 2019,\u00a0<em>Forager<\/em> im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely had good reviews from critics and the public. I think I\u2019ve had it on my Steam wishlist ever since it was originally released, but I never got around to buying it because I always had other things to play.<\/p>\n<p>Then, with my new Lenovo laptop purchase, I got three free months of Xbox Game Pass. When I was browsing through available games,\u00a0<em>Forager<\/em> stuck out, and I\u2019m so incredibly h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>y I finally gave it a try. With this game, I finally found the outlet I\u2019ve been looking for after playing the crap out of\u00a0<em>Stardew Valley<\/em>,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Animal-Crossing-New-Horizons-Nintendo-Switch\/dp\/B07SL6ZXBL?tag=reviewgeek-20\"><em>Animal Crossing: New Horizons<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/terraria.org\/\"><em>Terraria<\/em><\/a>, and other similar games.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"I_Love_the_Art_Style\"><\/span>I Love the Art Style<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-124922\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.reviewgeek.com\/p\/uploads\/2022\/08\/5d1e72a4.jpg\" alt=\"forager gameplay with multiple working machines set up on two islands\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"imagecredit\">HopFrog<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>An art style doesn\u2019t necessarily make or break a video game, but considering how many hours you spend with a game, it certainly doesn\u2019t hurt to have a pleasing art style.\u00a0<em>Forager<\/em> has a pixel art style that\u2019s similar to\u00a0<em>Stardew Valley<\/em> or\u00a0<em>Terraria<\/em>. There\u2019s something simple yet charming, about this art style.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019d think that after seeing so many indie games adopt the pixel art style, I\u2019d get sick of it, but nope! It\u2019s a simple art style, but it\u2019s charming and nostalgic.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Gameplay_A_Combo_of_Stardew_Valley_Terraria_and_Idle_Games\"><\/span>Gameplay: A Combo of <em>Stardew Valley<\/em>, <em>Terraria<\/em>, and Idle Games<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When I first saw this game, I thought it was essentially a clone of\u00a0<em>Stardew Valley<\/em>, just another farming sim with a slightly different premise. While\u00a0<em>Forager<\/em> is reminiscent of\u00a0<em>Stardew Valley<\/em> in some ways, like the ability to farm, craft, and decorate your place the way you want, it\u2019s also unique.<\/p>\n<p>With\u00a0<em>Stardew Valley<\/em>, there\u2019s a clear sense of what you should do first and certain quests to follow in order.\u00a0<em>Forager<\/em> isn\u2019t like that. Instead, you\u2019re given a very basic tutorial on collecting resources, and then it\u2019s up to you to figure out how you want to expand and streamline your processes. You gather materials like stone, ore, wood, berries, cotton, or flowers to craft more tools and machines to make your base more livable.<\/p>\n<p>You start on a single piece of land that\u2019s covered in resources to mine. And as soon as you mine one resource, another randomly generated resource pops up to take its place. It\u2019s not always instantaneous, but if you wait about five minutes, your whole piece of land will be covered in minable materials again. As you go through the game, you can build roads to put down and prevent new resources from spawning, so you have a walkable path at all times.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-124923\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.reviewgeek.com\/p\/uploads\/2022\/08\/664ae781.jpg\" alt=\"forager video game showing how you buy new land to expand your base\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"imagecredit\">HopFrog<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>From your starter piece of land, you can buy land in four different directions, as you can see in the photo above. Every time you buy a new piece of land to expand your base, you can buy any land above, below, to the right, or to the left of that new piece. If you don\u2019t see an adjacent piece of land available to purchase, you know you\u2019ve reached the end of the map. For me, and I assume many people, the ultimate goal is to buy all the available land.<\/p>\n<p>That said, there are a ton of other smaller goals to achieve throughout the game. With every piece of new land you purchase, there\u2019s a chance it could house a dungeon or a person with a fetch quest for you. Some dungeons are single rooms with one puzzle to solve, while others have multiple rooms and more complicated puzzles.<\/p>\n<p>Then, there\u2019s a museum collection with eight sections to complete in exchange for treasure chests. Or, if you want to craft one of everything before putting a game down, there\u2019s a ton of stuff to craft. There are the basics that any game with crafting has, like a forge, a mill, and a furnace, but you can also craft multiple weapons, gold to help you buy new land, a factory, a power plant, and an offshore oil drill. You can even build locomotives and craft railroad tracks for it to follow a custom path through your base.<\/p>\n<p>In some ways, <em>Forager<\/em>\u00a0also reminded me of a game my husband recently played called\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.factorio.com\"><em>Factorio<\/em><\/a>, where you have to build a rocket to end the game, but there are a million different ways to get there and make the game your own.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Its_So_Easy_to_Play_For_Hours\"><\/span>It\u2019s So Easy to Play For Hours<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<lite-youtube videoid=\"RcmEI2A0vds\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/RcmEI2A0vds\/hqdefault.jpg');\">\n<button type=\"button\" class=\"lty-playbtn\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"lyt-visually-hidden\">Play Video<\/span><br \/>\n<\/button>\n<\/lite-youtube>\n<p>If you\u2019ve ever played an idle game on your smartphone, you know there\u2019s usually a point at which it gets old. For some people, that time comes very early in the game, and for others, it\u2019s when it becomes too hard to progress without constantly checking in. While many mobile idle games, you have to pay for in-app purchases if you want to go faster;\u00a0Forager has no such paywall.<\/p>\n<p>As long as you have food in your inventory to keep your energy up, you can mine endless resources and keep playing for as long as you want. Even though I never intended to, there were multiple times when I would think I\u2019d only been playing for an hour when I\u2019d actually been playing for four or five hours. I just continuously hop from task to task, remembering that I was lying down a road in one area and then spotting a dungeon that I didn\u2019t have a chance to explore yet.<\/p>\n<p>I enjoy games that have a clear story path to follow, but it\u2019s nice every now and then to explore a game that seemingly has no purpose except being an escape from a stressful world.
