\n From the right: Considering \u2018Trumpism\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Trump\u2019s ideology, or \u201cTrumpism,\u201d hinges on what he has done in office, not \u201cwhat he said,\u201d Victor Davis Hanson contends at American Greatness. He has strengthened our relationship with Israel, made the United States energy independent by expanding \u201cfracking and horizontal drilling\u201d and punished rogue states such as Russia, Iran and China. He has opposed illegal immigration, \u201ca threat to the wages and viability of US workers,\u201d and is \u201cfinally making progress\u201d on his southern border wall. He has app<\/a>ointed \u201cconstructionist federal judges,\u201d defended the Bill of Rights and opposed \u201cviolence in the streets.\u201d He may trail in the polls, but \u201cAmericans at some point empathize with an underdog\u201d who fought on their behalf \u2014 and did \u201cnot give up when bullied.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iconoclast: On Education, Let Parents Pick<\/strong><\/p>\n

Schools should let parents \u201cpick their poison\u201d on how to educate their children this coming September, argues The Week\u2019s Bonnie Kristian. No existing option is particularly good: Reopening schools may lead to \u201coutbreaks\u201d; online and \u201chybrid\u201d learning \u201cdoesn\u2019t work well for younger children\u201d; learning pods cost parents \u201caround $12,000 a year per student.\u201d The best choice, then, is giving parents access to \u201cthe money their school district spends annually on their kids\u201d \u2014 and letting them decide how to spend it. \u201cThe national average of per-student spending is $12,612 as of 2018, which is enough to join a pod of six students,\u201d and even smaller sums would cover \u201cprivate or charter school\u201d tuition. In \u201cthis bewildering moment,\u201d a voucher program is just \u201cthe decent thing to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: Harris Is Worse than Hillary<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kamala Harris presents \u201ca major threat to the constitutional order, to the economy and to established norms\u201d \u2014 warns National Review\u2019s Kyle Smith \u2014 and \u201cstands an excellent chance\u201d of succeeding Joe Biden to the presidency if the duo win in November. She\u2019s so far left, in fact, that she makes 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton \u201clook moderate\u201d by comparison. Unlike Clinton, Harris unequivocally wants \u201ca single-payer federal health-care plan\u201d that covers illegal immigrants and \u201csaid we should decriminalize unauthorized border crossings.\u201d She also holds \u201cthe most extreme position on abortion imaginable\u201d and has \u201cfully backed the Green New Deal\u201d as a senator. \u201cMaking someone as extreme as Kamala Harris a president-in-waiting,\u201d in short, is \u201ca bone-chilling prospect.\u201d<\/p>\n

Libertarian: It\u2019s Not COVID Killing the USPS<\/strong><\/p>\n

The House-proposed $25 billion bailout won\u2019t solve the woes of the United States Postal Service, explains Eric Boehm at Reason; \u201cit\u2019s unlikely that any amount of cash will be enough to stabilize the agency\u2019s finances.\u201d The USPS is on track to lose more than $13 billion this year, but that\u2019s just \u201can acceleration of an ongoing trend, not a new problem created by the coronavirus.\u201d Why has it lost $69 billion since 2007, while its unfunded liabilities for retiree pensions and health care top $119 billion? \u201cCongress has rejected proposals that would free the postal service to operate more like a business, instead requiring the agency to deliver mail everywhere six days per week regardless of cost efficiency.\u201d The best hope: \u201cPrivatizing it in whole or in part\u201d so it could \u201cmake smart changes to its business model while guaranteeing that taxpayers aren\u2019t on the hook for yet another massive bailout in a year or two.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eye on the economy: Nat\u2019l Debt Is Clobbering Us<\/strong><\/p>\n

The US economy would be \u201cmuch worse\u201d if Washington hadn\u2019t borrowed \u201cheavily\u201d during the pandemic, but the feds\u2019 \u201cburgeoning debt will have ramifications,\u201d warns Mike Patton at Forbes. \u201cWith debt approaching $27 trillion\u201d and projected to hit $45 trillion by 2024 (per usdebtclock.org figures), expect \u201csystemic problems\u201d that, \u201cat some point, may be impossible to escape.\u201d The government may try to raise taxes, but \u201cyou cannot tax your way to prosperity.\u201d If Joe Biden wins, government will expand, taxes will climb and the economy may slow. If debt hits those levels, the nation will \u201cfeel the pain as labor markets tighten, the gap between the top 10 percent and the bottom 50 percent widens and social<\/a> unrest grows.\u201d Keep in mind, too, that \u2014 as Ronald Reagan noted \u2014 \u201cas government expands, liberty contracts.\u201d<\/p>\n
