When an outbreak affects mainly men who have sex with men, some portion of our elected legislators will have no incentive to act.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"highlight\">Snap!<\/p>\n<p>The 35-year-old continued, calling the whole situation \u201cmessed up\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHe thinks it will not touch their constituents, which is obviously messed up because people\u2019s lives are at stake, and there are queer people in all 50 states.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Van Ness recalled the moment monkeypox \u201creally hit home\u201d for him. He was exposed and had to cancel a planned <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a> to New Orleans where they\u2019re currently filming <em>Queer Eye:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI started calling all the political contacts I have, ringing alarm bells about how quickly cases were rising, and pleading with officials to take the virus more seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He also expressed his dis<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointment in \u201cpolitical leaders\u201d such as <strong>President Joe Biden<\/strong> and Speaker <strong>Nancy Pelosi<\/strong> for waiting until the situation \u201cballooned out of control\u201d before \u201ctaking it seriously\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cOnce again, we\u2019re seeing too little action taken until the situation has ballooned out of control. If nothing changes, we\u2019ll continue to experience failures like this response, which has been plagued with too few tests, lack of access to treatments, inadequate vaccine supply, and ambiguous guidance.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He did give the US credit on declaring the virus a public health emergency \u2014 but says it was \u201ca day late and a dollar short\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: California Man Shares \u2018Excruciating\u2019 Monkeypox Experience!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jonathan questioned legislators about their little-to-no incentive approach to monkeypox. He also compared it to the AIDS epidemic \u2014 and we all remember how horrifying that was! He says in his essay the new outbreak is being \u201cbrushed off\u201d as something only affecting LGBT people and pointed out the differences in the government\u2019s COVID-19 response:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s been so funny watching straight people be shocked with the government response during COVID-19, because we\u2019re like, \u2018Honey, this is Tuesday. You thought the government was going to come help you?\u2019 We\u2019re used to this sort of inaction. Monkeypox is like: same day, different virus.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>JVN went on to call the monkeypox outbreak \u201ca tragedy\u201d and reminded everyone they should care about it \u201ceven if it doesn\u2019t affect\u201d them \u2014 because \u201cwe should care about each other\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI think that tragedy, hope, despair, and resilience all can live next door to each other. But we need to act \u2026 Everyone should care about monkeypox \u2026 because we should care about each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He concluded by saying people have \u201cbecome bold\u201d about what they\u2019re \u201cwilling to witness\u201d and no one should\u2019ve witnessed this outbreak spreading \u201cfor the last two months\u201d without acting:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis isn\u2019t just a monkeypox story. This is a story of how we consistently fail people on the margins. We have to become bold about what we\u2019re willing to witness\u2014and no one should have been willing to witness this outbreak spread for the last two months.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"highlight\">Mic drop.<\/p>\n<p>Certainly a lot to take in!
