Kelly currently faces charges of child pornography and obstruction of justice  alongside two additional defendants, Derrel McDavid and Milton Brown. <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            \u201cThe defendant\u2026 had sex with multiple children,\u201d Assistant United States Attorney Jason Julien told the jury today, according to a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/criminal-justice\/ct-r-kelly-opening-statements-chicago-federal-trial-20220817-spmktlkj2rf3thpfyhu4dqywb4-story.html\"><i>Chicago Tribune<\/i> report<\/a>. \u201cHe made videotapes of himself having sex with children. And these two co-defendants\u2026 knew about it.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>            Julien went on to detail Kelly\u2019s 2008 acquittal on similar charges in Illinois state court after the key witness for the prosecution (Kelly\u2019s alleged victim) refused to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear against him. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/r-kelly-entertainment-music-chicago-07e6ba578b893650e4519db69b302143\/\">The Associate Press reports<\/a> that the woman in question, now in her 30s, will testify in the new case that he paid her off and threatened her not to give her testimony at the earlier trial. Julien also indicated his intention to play the jury parts of three videotapes that allegedly depict Kelly \u201chaving sexual contact with his then-14-year-old goddaughter,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/08\/17\/jurors-to-be-shown-video-of-r-kelly-having-sex-with-minor-prosecutors\/\">according to <i>The New York Post<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            Kelly\u2019s attorney Jennifer Bonjean referenced Kelly\u2019s past struggles in her opening remarks. \u201c[Prosecutors] believe their evidence is going to show that he is a serial child sexual abuser,\u201d she told the jury, per <i>The Tribune<\/i>. \u201cThat\u2019s what they believe. And it is true that Mr. Kelly is imperfect. It is true that on his journey from poverty to stardom that he stumbled along the way. It is important when the government wants to paint him as a monster that you remember we are talking about a human being. We implore you to keep those emotions in check.\u201d The FADER has reached out to Ms. Bonjean\u2019s office for further comment.<\/p>\n<p>            In June, a federal judge in Brooklyn sentenced Kelly to 30 years in prison after his September 2021 conviction on nine counts of sex trafficking and racketeering.
