\n Sean Penn is the latest actor to make a guest appearance at Gov. Andrew Cuomo\u2019s daily coronavirus press briefings.<\/p>\n

The \u201cMilk\u201d actor, through his nonprofit organization Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE), has opened up 11 coronavirus testing sites in hot spot, under-served New York City communities, said Cuomo Tuesday who noted there are now more than 800 testing sites in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cI talked to Mr. Penn about this problem in our hot spot zip codes and asked if they could help get more testing into those areas,\u201d Cuomo said, adding, \u201chis group came in, they mobilized and they did great work opening up testing sites in a very short period of time that will ramp up the testing in our hotspot clusters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to Penn by video hook-up during the briefing at New York Medical College in Valhalla, Cuomo \u2014 who called the Oscar winner an \u201cextraordinary person\u201d \u2014 said, \u201cEvery New Yorker thanks you. We owe you one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Penn told the governor, \u201cWe\u2019re proud to be in partnership with you. You\u2019ve been a time capsule of reason during this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before the video call ended, Cuomo told Penn, \u201cLet me know when you come east, I owe you a meal,\u201d to which Penn responded, \u201cI\u2019ll take it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to his acting career, Penn is known for being a political and social<\/a> activist.<\/p>\n

Penn called for the impeachment of then President George W. Bush when he won the first Christopher Reeve First Amendment Award in 2006 \u2014 and secretly met and interviewed notorious drug kingpin Joaquin \u201cEl Chapo\u201d Guzman after the drug king tunneled out of a Mexican prison in 2015.<\/p>\n

Other celebrities who have made cameos at Cuomo\u2019s COVID-19 press briefings were Chris Rock and Rosie Perez.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
