Guest hosts stood in during her absence, one of them being Sherri Shepherd. Now, <em>The Wendy Williams Show<\/em> has been canceled, its last episode airing June 17. And Shepherd will take over the show\u2019s previous time slot with her new talk show, <em>Sherri<\/em>. When Shepherd originally filled in for Williams, she was set to host for only a few days. Ahead of the <em>Sherri<\/em> premiere in September, the show\u2019s bosses behind the decisions are explaining why they chose Shepherd as Williams\u2019 successor.<\/p>\n<p>Executives at Debmar-Mercury, <em>The Wendy Williams Show<\/em>\u2018s production company, said Shepherd was one of the most popular guest hosts by far, according to show ratings. The syndicated TV programming group previously tried to set up a show with Shepherd that never panned out, so her success as Williams\u2019 temporary understudy made her the clear successor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe blew us away,\u201d Debmar-Mercury\u2019s executive VP programming Alexandra Jewett told <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/wendy-williams-sherri-shepherd-tv-talk-show-1235201251\/\"><em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>. \u201cWe\u2019re always looking to see who\u2019s out there and what they can bring to the table, and it was <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>arent from day one that Sherri had something special.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When executives new Williams needed a replacement, the former <em>View<\/em> co-host quickly became a short-list candidate for the full-time gig. Debmar-Mercury co-president Ira Bernstein said they saw Shepherd as the perfect person to lead a talk show about celebrity <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> and gossip without a political angle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had the time period and we had the format, so the question became: Who\u2019s the person who can best do it in his or her own style?\u201d Bernstein said. \u201cAnd we thought that Sherri did such a great job doing [the <em>Wendy<\/em> format] that, with tweaking, we\u2019re going to make it the Sherri Shepherd show, but at 30,000 feet, in the marketplace, it\u2019s going to fill that niche about gossip and entertainment and celebrities and what\u2019s going on in the world without being political at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Their ultimate goal was to make a new show similar enough to <em>Wendy Williams<\/em> that those loyal viewers would keep watching. Shepherd\u2019s program will attempt to maintain a friendly atmosphere over an at times shady one, as Williams\u2019 show was known to be. But Williams\u2019 shady humor was part of what made her so popular in the first place. Still, the execs are confident in Shepherd\u2019s ability to bring in new viewers while retaining old ones.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m\">\u201cWe\u2019d do research on Wendy over the years and [audience members] would say, \u2018I can\u2019t believe she\u2019s so mean to people. I watch her every day and she\u2019s so mean.\u2019 And it was like, OK, wait, wait, wait, what was the second line? I watch her every day, so clearly there was something there, but Sherri doesn\u2019t have that edge,\u201d Bernstein said. \u201cIn many ways, she\u2019s just like the audience in the sense that she\u2019s a single mom whose kid is her priority one, two and three, and she also happens to be a really talented co<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>n who\u2019s hosting a talk show and she\u2019s great at it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Show bosses also made the decision to remove <em>Wendy<\/em> content from YouTube and social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause we waited as long as we possibly could to decide about Wendy and, by then, we had no choice but to cancel <em>The Wendy Williams Show<\/em> and launch a new show,\u201d Marcus said. \u201cAnd look, there\u2019s no guarantee of success, but we saw enough of Sherri to think, \u2018Wow, she can actually do this,\u2019 and so we\u2019re excited to try.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Sherri<\/strong><\/em><strong>, September 2022, Check Your Local Listings<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
