Connected Life, maker of the excellent SmartDry laundry sensor, will\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.connectedlifelabs.com\/meetsmartdry\">cease operations on September 30th<\/a>. If there\u2019s any silver lining, it\u2019s that Connected Life gave customers an early notice of its demise\u2014a rare sight from a dying smart home company.<\/p>\n<p>Connected Life only ever made one product; the SmartDry laundry sensor. It\u2019s a simple device that uses your smartphone or voice assistant to tell you when laundry is dry.<\/p>\n<p>We reviewed the SmartDry sensor in 2019 and were very impressed by its performance. While the software experience was a bit janky, SmartDry worked as advertised. It saved us from checking on (or forgetting about) our laundry, and notably, we found ourselves ending cycles\u00a0<em>early<\/em> because of the small device. Connected Life claimed that SmartDry could save you $60 a year in energy costs, and we\u2019re inclined to believe the company.<\/p>\n<p>So, it\u2019s a shame that Connected Life and the SmartDry sensor are on their way out. And while we <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>reciate that the company gave a heads-up, we\u2019re frustrated that it hasn\u2019t open-sourced the SmartDry platform. The SmartDry shouldn\u2019t\u00a0<em>need<\/em> to connect with any servers\u2014there\u2019s no reason why it can\u2019t work locally.<\/p>\n<p>Some guides promise to make SmartDry compatible with the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/community.home-assistant.io\/t\/clothes-dryer-automations\/149017\/130\">Home Assistant<\/a> platform, effectively forcing the device to run locally. But the process requires a bit of work, especially if you aren\u2019t familiar with Home Assistant.<\/p>\n<p>SmartDry sensors will stop working when Connected Life servers shut down on September 30th. For what it\u2019s worth, you can use a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/shopusa.shelly.cloud\/shelly-1pm-ul-wifi-smart-home-automation#231\">Shelly 1PM relay switch<\/a> to detect when your dryer has completed a cycle.
