\n The Canadian Football League canceled its 2020 season Monday after it was unable to secure financial assistance amid the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

It\u2019ll be the first time since 1919 that the Grey Cup won\u2019t be presented to the league\u2019s champion.<\/p>\n

The league was hoping for financial assistance to stage an abbreviated season in the hub city of Winnipeg, but could not reach a deal with lawmakers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do feel I am responsible for the fact that we are not on the field this year,\u201d CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie said, per CBC. \u201cBut I resolve to learn from what we\u2019ve experienced and I\u2019m looking forward to a bright future.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we\u2019re all watching an example on the world stage today of a leader that takes no responsibility for anything \u2026 and no matter what happ<\/a>ens, I won\u2019t be that guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

In April, Ambrosie told The Canadian press that the league had presented a three-tiered request for financial assistance that began with $30 million, including more in the event of a shortened season and up to $150 million in the event of a cancelled season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI regret that.\u2026 I do wish we hadn\u2019t thrown that number [$150 million] out,\u201d Ambrosie said. \u201cWe never asked for $150 million, at least I don\u2019t feel we did.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we did was aggregate what we thought was the worst-case scenario \u2026 and we said, \u2018In the end our problem could be as big as $150 million,\u2019 but that became the number.\u201d<\/p>\n

NFL training camps proceeded to padded practices this week and the league is currently hoping to play their season as planned.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
