But coaching e-sports players is more intense than you might think. &#8220;We train them on injury prevention, nutrition and step challenges.&#8221;\n                        <\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Early days: <\/b><\/span><span class=\"s2\">I grew up in London, England. I was eight years old when I got my first gaming console, a PlayStation 1. I remember waking up early to play <i>Spyro the Dragon<\/i> and <i>Oddworld: Abe\u2019s Exoddus<\/i> before school. The turning point was when I got a PlayStation 3; I fell in love with <i>Call of Duty 4<\/i>. I have vivid memories of missions spent crawling through the grass in a ghillie suit.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Education: <\/b><\/span><span class=\"s2\">I\u2019ve always been an athletic person, but e-sports offered me another o<\/span>utlet for competition. I did well in online matchmaking lobbies\u2014where you compete against other <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>rs\u2014and got recruited to play on a team through a website called GameBattles. Eventually, I played for money with pro <i>Call of Duty<\/i> teams, like TCM and Epsilon. To date, my total <i>CoD<\/i> playing time is close to 10,000 hours.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\"><b>How I was hired: <\/b><\/span>In 2014, I ended my pro gaming career to pursue an economics degree. I worked in insurance and data analytics jobs in London, but I didn\u2019t enjoy the suit-and-tie lifestyle. In 2020, I found a posting for a coaching role with Toronto Ultra, the city\u2019s <i>CoD<\/i> team, on the e-sports job site Hitmarker. My <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lication included a case study on opposition strategy based on the 2019 <i>Call of Duty<\/i> World League Championship. I got the job.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Toronto Ultra CDL 2022 Cod Champs Team Introduction (Championship Weekend)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WxctIwSTaCc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s4\"><b>Average day: <\/b><\/span><span class=\"s5\">Gaming season starts at the end of January, and we host practices from Monday to Saturday in OverActive <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a>\u2019s facility in Toronto\u2019s Liberty Village neighbourhood. (Tournaments take place across North America.) We start with a meeting, where we review matches with our six players via video replay. Then we have them warm up at their gaming stations by shooting bots in a practice lobby. We follow that with a two-and-a-half-hour scrimmage block. Ultra\u2019s head coach, Mark Bryceland, and I oversee the gameplay and give feedback using CoDCast, which is software that allows us to see players\u2019 perspectives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\"><b>Necessary equipment: <\/b><\/span>I have a dual-monitor setup with a live feed of the players on one screen and Excel (for analytics) on the other. I also use an Epos headset to communicate with the players.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\"><b>On-the-job uniform: <\/b><\/span>On game days, I wear Toronto Ultra jerseys. On practice days, it\u2019s a lot of hoodies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\"><b>Workplace hazard:<\/b><\/span> Players are vulnerable to repetitive stress injuries to their fingers, wrists and joints. We train them on injury prevention, nutrition and step challenges\u2014because they\u2019re seated for so long.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s4\"><b>Biggest perk:<\/b><\/span><b> <\/b>I relish <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ling. This year, we\u2019ve been to Texas, Minnesota and Ohio. Last year, I went to the <i>CoD<\/i> championship in Los Angeles. Fans lined up to get photos with the players, like they were celebrities.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s4\"><b>Game-day superstition:<\/b><\/span><span class=\"s5\"> I\u2019m banned from wearing my Adidas NMD sneakers.
