{"id":49188,"date":"2020-08-18T22:13:00","date_gmt":"2020-08-18T19:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/this-is-how-parents-feel-about-at-home-learning-and-schools-reopening\/"},"modified":"2020-08-18T22:13:00","modified_gmt":"2020-08-18T19:13:00","slug":"this-is-how-parents-feel-about-at-home-learning-and-schools-reopening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/this-is-how-parents-feel-about-at-home-learning-and-schools-reopening\/","title":{"rendered":"#This is how parents feel about at-home learning and schools reopening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#This is how parents feel about at-home learning and schools reopening<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"article-wrapper\" role=\"main\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>        August 18, 2020 <span>|<\/span> 3:13pm           <\/p>\n<div>\n<div id=\"syndicated-partner\">\n<div>\n<div>\n                        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" height=\"36\"  src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/07\/swns_copyright_large.png?w=185\"  width=\"185\"><\/img><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div>\n                        Two-thirds of parents are worried their child will be below grade level in the fall \u2014 as a result of the classroom time lost due to COVID-19, according to new research.<\/p>\n<p>The survey of 2,000 parents with school-aged children revealed 65 percent are concerned about their child being behind due to the disrupted 2019\u20132020 school year.<\/p>\n<p>The average parent surveyed said their child lost about eight weeks of classroom learning at the end of the school year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16154364\"><img alt=\"\" data- data- height=\"1808\" width=\"300\"><\/img><figcaption><span>SWNS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And while the majority of parents said their child\u2019s district continued with distance learning for all or part of the rest of the school year \u2014 through video calls or educational worksheets \u2014 13 percent said their child didn\u2019t have any form of continued distance education.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioned by The Genius of Play and conducted by OnePoll, the survey looked at what parents have done to keep their child learning this summer and what their thoughts are for school starting back up in the fall.<\/p>\n<p>Seventy percent of parents surveyed said they\u2019re actively taking steps to prepare their child for the next school year \u2014 this includes educational workbooks (47 percent), getting them a virtual or in-person tutor (39 percent) and spending time reading together each day (39 percent).<\/p>\n<p>But those aren\u2019t the only things parents are doing to help their child this summer \u2014 many are prioritizing playtime.<\/p>\n<p>Fifty-eight percent of parents are using this summer as an opportunity to spend more time playing with their child and 76 percent said having time for educational play this summer is the best way to prepare their child for the next school year.<\/p>\n<p>While it might seem like an easy solution, 79 percent said it\u2019s especially important for their child to have time to play this summer, in order to deal with the stress and anxiety resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, 74 percent said their child has used play as a way to cope with the on-going pandemic \u2014 and 38 percent said one of the benefits of play is learning to deal with emotions like fear and frustration.<\/p>\n<p>Results also showed children have had more time to play, as a result of the pandemic \u2014 according to 75 percent of parents surveyed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSixty-eight percent of parents said their kids are getting tired of screens and gravitating to traditional toys as they seek entertainment and stimulation,\u201d said Anna Yudina, senior director of marketing initiatives at The Toy Association, which spearheads The Genius of Play.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParents who are looking for inspiring play ideas and resources can visit our website, thegeniusofplay.org, as they help their children stay on track with their development and deal with anxiety during these uncertain times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Play has a variety of benefits, beyond coping with current events; 44 percent said play helped their child\u2019s coordination, balance and motor skills while 43 percent said play helped release their child\u2019s natural energy.<\/p>\n<p>Not only that, but 40 percent said play helps children learn to interact with others \u2014 a skill that will be beneficial for whenever schools are able to safely reopen.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty-two percent of parents believe schools will reopen in the fall, as usual, while 36 percent think they\u2019ll physically reopen after the winter holidays, around January.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, it\u2019s likely parents will continue to utilize play: the survey revealed 43 percent have become more thankful for \u2014 and more reliant on \u2014 toys and play as educational resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegardless of whether or not schools physically reopen this fall, one thing most parents can agree on is the importance of play in their children\u2019s lives,\u201d said Yudina.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn top of helping children learn and adapt, playing together as a family strengthens bonds and builds lifelong memories.
