Kelly has had his prison commissary fund seized and it will be stashed for a later date to be used as restitution for each of the disgraced singer\u2019s victims.<\/p>\n<p>It was reported last month that because the singer had failed to pay $140,000 in court-ordered fines, prosecutors asked a federal court to seize over $28,000 from Kelly\u2019s prison fund.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\" inserted=\"shortcode\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit\u201c200\u201d\" class=\"adUnits\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n                        if(isMobile){\n                            window.catalyst.cmd.push(\"loadAds\", [[\"incontent\", \"contentUnit\u201c200\u201d\", \"section_post_inarticle\"]]);\n                        }\n                    <\/script><br \/>\nA letter sent on August 4 said \u201cthe defendant had accumulated substantial funds in his inmate trust account.\u201d Consequently, the Bureau of Prisons put a freeze on the money.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday (September 9), Ann M. Donnelly, a federal district judge for the Eastern District of New York, ruled that the seizure of Kelly\u2019s funds will move forward.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\" inserted=\"shortcode\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit\u201c300\u201d\" class=\"adUnits\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n                        if(isMobile){\n                            window.catalyst.cmd.push(\"loadAds\", [[\"incontent\", \"contentUnit\u201c300\u201d\", \"section_post_inarticle\"]]);\n                        }\n                    <\/script><br \/>\nAccording to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/r-kelly-jail-commissary-account-victims-restitution-1234589605\/\"><em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>, R. Kelly\u2019s fund totalled\u00a0$27,828, of which\u00a0$900 will be used to pay a court fine, and the rest will be transferred to an interest-bearing account, where it will remain until the court determines how much restitution Kelly\u2019s victims are owed.<\/p>\n<p>After the money is moved, Kelly\u2019s commissary account at Metropolitan Correctional Center, Chicago \u2014 where the 55-year-old is currently incarcerated \u2014 will contain just $500.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to seize the money comes after Kelly\u2019s lawyers fought the move, arguing that the money was incorrectly confiscated, as the government\u2019s notice of default and restitution was not yet finalized when the funds were initially taken.<\/p>\n<p>However, Judge Donnelly ruled that prosecutors had the right to freeze the <em>12 Play<\/em> singer\u2019s funds to protect his victims\u2019 rights \u201cto full and timely restitution.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\" inserted=\"shortcode\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit\u201c400\u201d\" class=\"adUnits\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n                        if(isMobile){\n                            window.catalyst.cmd.push(\"loadAds\", [[\"incontent\", \"contentUnit\u201c400\u201d\", \"section_post_inarticle\"]]);\n                        }\n                    <\/script><br \/>\nDonnelly sentenced R. Kelly to\u00a030 years in prison\u00a0on June 29 after he was\u00a0convicted on nine counts of various racketeering and sex trafficking charges\u00a0during his September 2021 trial.<\/p>\n<p>His second federal trial began last month in Chicago, in which he\u2019s charged with child pornography and obstruction of justice.
