Murphy graduated from Penn State University in 2000 with a double major in political <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> and psychology. <\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old Long Island native was talking about then heading off to law school next. <\/p>\n<p>Instead, Murphy surprised his family and girlfriend by following his dream of becoming a Navy SEAL.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But then, Murphy\u2019s military career took a turn when America was attacked on Sept. 11, 2001.<\/p>\n<p>Four years later, Murphy was wr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ing up his fourth deployment and was getting ready to wed his girlfriend of five years, Heather, in November.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But that all changed on June 28, 2005.<\/p>\n<p>Murphy, along with three of his fellow teammates, Matthew G. Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his selfless actions in Afghanistan during Operation Red Wing.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Richard Pollina<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The book \u201cLone Survivor,\u201d written by Luttrell in 2007 and later turned into a movie in 2013, recounted Murphy\u2019s heroic last-ditch effort to save his team. <\/p>\n<p>Now, nearly 10 miles away from Murphy\u2019s Long Island hometown of Patchogue, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/murphsealmuseum.org\/\">The Lt. Michael P. Murphy Navy SEAL Museum<\/a> opened in Sayville on June 28 \u2013 after five years in the making and 17 years to the day of Operation Red Wing.<\/p>\n<p>The second Navy SEAL museum in the country, the museum honors SEALs who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice serving our country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was never about Michael. Off to the side, a small screen plays the documentary \u201cMurphy the Protector.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s stories about Mike personally, and they wanna know more about him,\u201d said his mother, Maureen Murphy. \u201cThat\u2019s the impact he had. They felt like Mike was their son.
