\n Jam Master Jay\u2019s family says it has \u201cmixed emotions\u2019\u2019 about the arrest of the Queens hip-hop pioneer\u2019s alleged killers \u2014 while former Run-DMC member Darryl McDaniels added that the news<\/a> revived \u201cpainful memories.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Jay, whose real name was Jason Mizell, was shot once in the head execution-style in his Hollis studio in October 2002 \u2014 and the case remained unsolved for nearly 20 years, until a grand jury indicted two local pals for his murder last week.<\/p>\n

Authorities say the 37-year-old 1980s music legend was killed in a drug deal that went bad.<\/p>\n

\u201cUpon hearing this news [of the suspects\u2019 arrests], we have mixed emotions; we truly hope that these indictments are a solid step towards justice being served in the murder of Jay,\u2019\u2019 the victim\u2019s son Jesse Mizell and other kin said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe realize that there are other families out there who have lingering pain who continue to wait for their own closure, and we pray that this case gives them hope.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

McDaniels added in a separate statement through the same publicist, \u201cI hope Jay can finally rest in peace.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough this latest news opens up a lot of painful memories for all of us who knew and loved Jam Master Jay, I\u2019m relieved to hear that 2 suspects have been arrested and charged with his murder,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a difficult 18 years not having him around while knowing that his murderers were not yet indicted for this heinous crime.<\/p>\n

\u201cI commend NYPD, NYC Detectives, Federal Agents and all the law enforcement who were involved in this case, for not giving up and working to bring justice for Jay.\u201d<\/p>\n

McDaniels, Mizell and a third member, Joseph Simmons \u2014 the brother of Def Jam Records founder Russell Simmons \u2014 formed the classic hip-hop group.<\/p>\n

Russell Simmons said in an Instagram post after the arrests, \u201cI have kept my brother Jason Mizel high in my prayers for all these years. \u2026. it turns out i know the kids and the families of the kids who are indicted for his murder.<\/p>\n

\u201cso now I pray for them and their families.\u201d<\/p>\n

Accused triggerman Karl Jordan Jr., 36, pleaded not guilty to killing Jason Mizell in Brooklyn federal court Monday.<\/p>\n

Alleged accomplice Ronald Washington, 56, pleaded not guilty in the same court Tuesday. He was already behind bars, serving a more than 17-year sentence for a string of armed robberies that he was convicted of after the slaying.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
