Is this why?<\/p>\n<p>For those who haven\u2019t been following the case, on August 6, the 16-year-old went missing after a high school party out in the woods near Truckee, California. Two weeks later, sadly, she and her vehicle were found at the bottom of the Prosser Creek Reservoir. She wasn\u2019t found by police or other first responders but by, of all things, a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube<\/a><\/strong> channel of volunteer investigators called <strong>Adventures With Purpose<\/strong>. Unusual, yes, but at least the parents had closure. Well, some\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The thing is, we still don\u2019t know what happened to the poor teen. It may have just been a car accident\u2026 but it really doesn\u2019t look like it. As diver\u00a0<strong>Nick Rinn<\/strong> from the AWP channel pointed out, Kiely\u2019s body was found in the backseat. So someone else had to have been driving.<\/p>\n<p>After that mystery, it became even more imperative to investigate the exact circumstances of Kiely\u2019s death. The next step was obviously her autopsy. However\u2026 those results have been delayed \u2014 quite a lot actually. We learned last Thursday the autopsy would be delayed nearly <em>two months<\/em>, all the way until November 1. The\u00a0<strong>Nevada County Sheriffs Office<\/strong> explained to\u00a0<em>The Sun<\/em> only that \u201cthe investigation is not complete.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: Another Amateur Sleuth Apparently Found Kiely\u2019s Laptop &amp; Other Personal Items<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But thanks to an expert we may have an explanation for what\u2019s taking so long.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking out on a recent episode of the <em>DutyRon<\/em> true crime show, former medical examiner <strong>Barbara Butcher<\/strong> explained that the extra difficulty may have arisen from the conditions under which Kiely\u2019s body was found. Now brace yourselves because this next bit gets a bit graphic\u2026<\/p>\n<p>According to Adventures With Purpose, the temperature of the water at the depth Kiely\u2019s remains were found was recorded to be about 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Butcher cautioned:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cUnfortunately, 80 degrees is not ideal for preservation of a body.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>She added it\u2019s not just water that would have damaged the body over that time:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis is a freshwater reservoir. I\u2019m going to assume there were fish in it. And, you know\u2026 fish and crabs and other marine life nibble at the body. So, there is some degree of mutilation.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ew. That\u2019s really upsetting.<\/p>\n<p>It also implies the difficulty level is much higher than we realized on this particular autopsy. Even determining manner of death might be tricky. How about toxicology? Is that a no-go?<\/p>\n<p>Barbara says while it\u2019s very difficult in these circumstances, it\u2019s not impossible. They just have to think outside the box \u2014 or in this case, outside the hair and blood. Toxicology can be found in cases like these, Butcher says, through the eyeballs.
