She began:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMy father and I went in and out of having some friendships, we never really clicked. Because he did something so unthinkable to me, I would never call him Dad again, really.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This goes all the way back to Selma\u2019s start in the business, after she got her first job on a movie. The problem? The producers of the film started getting letters pushing the untrue claim that the aspiring actress \u201cwas a heroin addict.\u201d It completely wrecked her budding career, as she explained:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt was a real kind of poison pen letter about me, claiming to be an agent. They fired me before even shooting. They were lovely to me but explained, \u2018We don\u2019t know what\u2019s going on, the liability.\u2019 \u2018We don\u2019t believe this, but\u2026&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But suddenly she was more trouble than she was worth. Pfft. The joke\u2019s on them, they threw away a chance to have Selma Blair in their movie!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: Selma Details Being Sexually Assaulted By Her Boarding School Dean<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Selma, still a teen at the time, assumed the letter writer was just a high school bully, just a mean girl prank gone too far. But it didn\u2019t end there. Soon after more letters were going out \u2014 this time to Drew! The\u00a0<em>Cruel Intentions<\/em> alum recalled being <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roached by police over death threats being sent to the child star:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI hear from a detective who said, \u2018We know this is not you\u2019 \u2014 this was like maybe almost a year later \u2014 \u2018but someone has been writing letters to Drew Barrymore, poison pen letters, signed by Selma Blair.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>She was shocked \u2014 but not as much as when she found the source of the letters:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI eventually, long story short, learned it was my father, someone involved with my father and he was letting this information get to her.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Selma revealed in her book it was her father\u2019s girlfriend at the time. She explained to Drew:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhen he found out it was her, he chose her and didn\u2019t believe me. He said, \u2018No she\u2019s not doing this, you\u2019re also ruining her life, you put a mickey in her drink at Starbucks.\u2019 I mean, just ridiculous stuff. I\u2019m like, \u2018I\u2019m in New York, I\u2019ve never met her.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Oof. It sounds like this woman had some serious problems! She was gaslighting a man to drive a wedge into his relationship with his teenage daughter! And the sad thing is, it worked\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Selma told Drew she and her father \u201cnever had a real make-up\u201d about it:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMy whole adult life after that, once I knew it was him, I had to cut him out.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It was only \u201cat the end\u201d that her father \u2014 who passed in 2012 \u2014 finally admitted he had learned the truth. They lost out on that relationship for so long\u2026<\/p>\n<p>So what was Drew\u2019s side of this whole death threat debacle? It was much easier for her \u2014 she didn\u2019t get the letters! She was so protected, having been a child star, that she wasn\u2019t even told about these death threats \u2014 something that was clearly a huge weight off Selma\u2019s shoulders, who said even though she knew she didn\u2019t do it, this had always been a fear of hers, what Drew must have thought of her.<\/p>\n<p>Drew said she only learned about the letters when the book came out \u2014 and had been pursuing getting Selma for an interview just because she loved her documentary and had been \u201ctotal fan\u201d and \u201cadmirer for many years\u201d of her fellow actress! Huh!<\/p>\n<p>And the fandom was mutual! Selma surprised Drew by gushing:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cYou were my childhood favorite, because you were <em>the<\/em> girl. That\u2019s why the letters went to you, I assume, because he knew what you meant to me. It\u2019s not random. You were the favorite.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s so funny how surprised Drew is by that! She must know she was a LOT of people\u2019s favorite star!
