Garlinghouse later<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bgarlinghouse\/status\/1571922558404145158\"> tweeted<\/a> that the commissioner\u2019s visit was related to \u201cpublic-private engagement\u201d \u2014 likely referring to a privately funded company like Ripple engaging with U.S. regulators. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The next stop on my learning tour was visiting <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ripple?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Ripple<\/a> Labs. On Saturday, the SEC and Ripple both filed motions for summary judgment in a case alleging the firm\u2019s XRP sales violated securities laws. The case has been ongoing since December 2020. <\/p>\n<p>The outcome of the SEC case could influence which federal regulator might play a greater role in handling the XRP token as a commodity or security. Garlinghouse <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bgarlinghouse\/status\/1571281889008263168\">claimed<\/a> on Saturday that the SEC wasn\u2019t \u201cinterested in applying the law\u201d and alleged the regulator sought to \u201cexpand their jurisdiction far beyond the authority granted to them by Congress.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>The SEC vs. Ripple lawsuit: Everything you need to know<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under chair Gary Gensler, the SEC has pursued many enforcement actions against crypto projects and related areas.
