And the city you live in plays a role, too. Our data found that being a local doesn\u2019t necessarily guarantee a higher pay grade. interview based on your location.<\/p>\n<p>Here, locals have the advantage, with the lion\u2019s share of interview invites and hires going to candidates already located in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>However, after a decline in hiring candidates from the rest of the world in 2019 and 2020, rates are rising again for 2021 and 2022, proving that borders aren\u2019t a barrier for the right job.<\/p>\n<figure developers typically underestimate the salary they deserve. For example, check out the difference between the estimated salary for junior management (\u20ac39,200) and the average offered salary for junior management (\u20ac67,500): a whopping 41% difference.<\/p>\n<p>Typically, the expected salary and average offered salary tend to align more in senior roles, suggesting that more experienced developers have a more accurate idea of what they\u2019re worth. If an interview invite was missing significant information (like position, title, or company location), we removed those from the study to ensure the data can be compared consistently. We also removed unusually low or high salaries to avoid extreme outliers and used an external library to determine gender based on the individual\u2019s first name.
