\n A leader in the Black Lives Matter movement in New York defended looters Tuesday night, comparing America to \u201cterrorists\u201d and saying the \u201cgovernment goes and pillages different countries.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hawk Newsome\u2019s comments came during a heated exchange with Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum, who had asked him to respond to former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani saying BLM should be designated a domestic terrorist organization.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe thing is, he\u2019s talking about mothers and fathers who are out there protesting,\u201d said Newsome, the co-founder of Black Lives Matter of Greater New York.<\/p>\n

MacCallum, the host of \u201cThe Story,\u201d clarified that Giuliani was referring to the looters who destroy businesses.<\/p>\n

\u201cOK, so when America goes and steals diamonds and oils, who\u2019s calling us terrorists?\u201d Newsome responded. \u201cWhen the American government goes and pillages different countries, who\u2019s calling us terrorists?\u201d<\/p>\n

MacCallum then asked Newsome for his response to a clip of Ariel Atkins, a BLM activist in Chicago, who said looting was a form of reparations.<\/p>\n

He pivoted the conversation to white supremacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s be very careful, Martha,\u201d he said. \u201cThe problem with oppression and white supremacy is, white supremacy will have you criticizing the oppressed and worshiping the oppressors.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, if you want to talk to me about reparations, nothing falls short of a solution other than people cutting a check. If you want to do something about reparations, cut the check.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cAnd we\u2019re not talking about going in everyday Americans\u2019 pockets. We\u2019re talking about banks like Brown Brothers Harriman, who benefited from slavery. Other insurance companies that sold insurance policies on slaves. We\u2019re talking about the American government that was founded on the backs of slaves.\u201d<\/p>\n

The interview then deteriorated, with McCallum and Newsome talking over each other after the host pointedly asked him if he thought it was \u201cethically OK\u201d to loot stores \u2014 which he never answered.<\/p>\n

\u201cOK. Before I answer that, I want to ask you this,\u201d Newsome responded. \u201cDo you think it\u2019s OK that our government kills people in their homes like Breonna Taylor?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I don\u2019t think that\u2019s OK. Of course I don\u2019t think that\u2019s OK,\u201d MacCallum shot back, as Newsome continued to talk over her.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
