\n President Trump said he would support Oracle acquiring TikTok in the US as the popular video-sharing app<\/a> continues its search for a buyer.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Trump called Oracle a \u201cgreat company\u201d following reports that the software giant had preliminary talks about buying TikTok\u2019s operations in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that Oracle would be certainly somebody that could handle it,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n

Trump also said he thinks the company\u2019s owner \u201cis a tremendous guy\u201d \u2014 a possible reference to Oracle co-founder and chairman Larry Ellison, a Trump supporter.<\/p>\n

Trump has set a Sept. 15 deadline for ByteDance, TikTok\u2019s Chinese parent company, to sell the app\u2019s US operations amid concerns that Americans\u2019 user data could be shared with the Chinese government. TikTok has denied such allegations.<\/p>\n

Microsoft had emerged in recent weeks as the leading bidder for TikTok, saying earlier this month that it had talked with the Trump administration about its discussions with ByteDance. Twitter<\/a> \u2014 which has clashed with Trump over misinformation in his tweets \u2014 has also reportedly expressed interest in bidding.<\/p>\n

But Oracle has leaders who are friendly to the president. Ellison \u2014 the world\u2019s 12th-richest person with a net worth of $65.8 billion, according to Bloomberg \u2014 held a Trump campaign fundraiser at his California estate in February, and CEO Safra Catz reportedly worked on Trump\u2019s White House transition team.<\/p>\n

Trump indicated that TikTok\u2019s ultimate buyer will have to pay the US government to get the deal done.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re the ones making it possible, so our Treasury has to be very well compensated,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Neither Oracle nor TikTok immediately responded to requests for comment Wednesday morning.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
