Those requirements require you to take some extra steps when you\u2019re setting up a Windows 11 virtual machine \u2014 here are all the things you need to do to get it running.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Windows_11s_Virtual_Machine_Requirements\"><\/span>Windows 11\u2019s Virtual Machine Requirements<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Virtual Machines let you run an operating system \u2014 like Windows 11 or Ubuntu \u2014 without needing a different physical computer. You can create a virtual computer that runs on your existing PC. Virtual machines are extremely handy for testing out new operating systems, beta releases of operating systems, testing out software in a sandbox, or any number of other things.<\/p>\n<p>You have to meet the regular Windows 11 hardware requirements in order to run a Windows 11 virtual machine, those are:<\/p>\n<p>The CPU, RAM, storage, and display requirements are all pretty easily met on most modern computers. Even <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/howto\/45359\/htg-explains-whats-a-solid-state-drive-and-what-do-i-need-to-know\/\">solid-state drives\u00a0\u2014 which are ideal for running virtual machines \u2014 aren\u2019t all that much more expensive than conventional hard drives. The real problematic requirements tend to be TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot \u2014 either (or both) will often prevent a Windows 11 virtual machine from being installed.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Install_Windows_11_in_a_Virtual_Machine\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_1\">How to Install Windows 11 in a Virtual Machine<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are a few different ways to run Virtual Machines on Windows. The two most popular options are VMWare Workstation Player and Oracle VirtualBox. The user interfaces are entirely different, and they have slightly different requirements. You can use whichever you like \u2014 it doesn\u2019t really matter here \u2014 but don\u2019t install both unless you want to use both.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_note\"><p><strong>Note:<\/strong> It is possible to use TPM within VMWare Workstation Player, and Oracle Virtualbox\u2019s 7th edition will support it too. However, we\u2019ve just disabled it here since it is much easier.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If there is other virtualization software you like to use it\u2019ll probably work \u2014 you\u2019ll just need to adapt these steps to your software.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Download_Windows_11\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_2\">Download Windows 11<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The first thing you need to do is <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/deeplink?id=2QzUaswX1as&amp;mid=24542&amp;u1=htg\/833996|xid:{xid}&amp;murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fsoftware-download%2Fwindows11&amp;___trxnet=ls\">download a Windows 11 ISO<\/a>. Select \u201cWindows 11 (multi-edition ISO) from the dropdown box, then click \u201cDownload.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-834021\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/download-windows-11.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"291\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Start this download as soon as you can. Also, ensure that the OS version is set to \u201cWindows 11,\u201d then click \u201cNext.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_warning\"><p><strong>Warning:<\/strong> You can put the Machine Folder anywhere you want, but try to put it on an SSD. The default options should be fine for general use. It\u2019s the other major hypervisor that is popular for everyday applications. It lets you modify most of the options available the Windows operating system. In this case, we\u2019re going to use it to disable the TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirements. Normally you need to be extremely careful editing the Registry since a changed value or deleted key can cause serious issues.
