Biden poised just so in a dark suit, a friendly tight-lipped Irish smile on his lips, Fetterman in a dusty gray hoodie and shorts, trying not to scowl.<\/p>\n<p>Biden chimes in, \u201cHow\u2019s the campaign going, kid?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not about kicking balls in the authority you know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust like Strom Thurmond used to say. Where is Strom by the way? Strom?\u201d Biden looks around frantically for the politician who died in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProblem is this whole crime .\u2009.\u2009. uh, thing. Just because I said a few times that I want to release half of murderers from jail, this fancy Oz says I\u2019m not (using air quotes) prioritizing public safety. That I\u2019m not tough enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you kidding me? Not tough,\u201d Biden chuckles. \u201cLook at you, you\u2019re massive. If you weren\u2019t white I\u2019d say you could still be playing football.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks, Mr. President,\u201d Fetterman mutters, \u201cOz says I\u2019m soft on crime, but did he ever chase down a black guy with a shotgun just for being in the wrong neighborhood? I don\u2019t think so. These were some bad hombres, Jack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s how you get respect, John, after that every year they voted for me like I was a plate of nachos. That pool hall was my political home. We\u2019d listen to Tito Puente all day. Where is Tito by the way, he\u2019s suppose to be here for the rally. Tito?\u201d he looks around for the musician who died in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see what you\u2019re saying, Mr. President, I have to show these voters who the real tough guy is. You know, I once vandalized a storefront in my own city as mayor. I\u2019ll ask.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsk who?\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know, whoever gives me these note cards that tell me when to sit down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman looks a bit nervous but takes a breath and dives in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBe honest, Mr. President. The hoodie and shorts, what do you think? Is it working? Am I kicking authority in the balls or do I just look like the guy searching the parking lot outside 7-Eleven for half-smoked cigarette butts?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you look great, John. A lot like some of Hunter\u2019s buddies, actually. Great guys. Those guys would show up 2, 3 o\u2019clock in the morning sometimes, just to hang out. I mean it, I really do, that\u2019s friendship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An elegant young woman in a navy blue dress drifts in, handing Biden a note card and just as quietly is gone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, John,\u201d Biden says. \u201cIt\u2019s time we be sneezing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden looks back at the note card. \u201cOh, leaving, it\u2019s time we be leaving. That makes more sense. I didn\u2019t have to sneeze. Did you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, Mr. President.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood, then that\u2019s settled,\u201d Biden nods gravely, \u201cListen John, lemme tell you something.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden leans in and squints before whispering, \u201cYou\u2019re tough, John, the toughest, not a joke! We are the best the Democrats have to offer to the country!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With that Biden dawdles off in the wrong direction before being gently corrected.
