Most of us comfortably watched <em>The Irishman <\/em>at home, and that\u2019s exactly where Scorsese created his new short film. On a smartphone no less.<\/p>\n<p>These days it\u2019s difficult to watch anything without finding connections to the ongoing global pandemic. And Scorsese hasn\u2019t been spared. The short film (or is it a video essay? The line is compellingly fuzzy here) premiered on the last episode of the BBC program <em>Lockdown Culture with Mary Beard, <\/em>originally titled <em>Front Row Late<\/em>. In it, the filmmaker sets Alfred Hitchock\u2019s <strong><em>The Wrong Man<\/em><\/strong> and Robert Siodmak\u2019s <strong><em>The Killers <\/em><\/strong>alongside the loneliness, unexpected halt, and re-jigged stakes that the coronavirus has visited upon the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTime takes on another aspect,\u201d Scorsese observes, as <strong>Henry Fonda<\/strong> peers through the bars on the television in the director\u2019s home office. \u201cUltimately that time has to be worth it even if it\u2019s just existing\u2026breathing if you can, under these circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For those with access to the BBC iPlayer, you can watch Martin Scorsese\u2019s short here.
