How Crypto Twitter could change under Musk\u2019s leadership &#8220;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.cointelegraph.com\/images\/840_aHR0cHM6Ly9zMy5jb2ludGVsZWdyYXBoLmNvbS91cGxvYWRzLzIwMjItMTAvYzFjMmVkY2QtODA5OS00NDBmLWExN2MtMDc5MmYxMjVjNTJiLmpwZw==.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content\" data-v-6ebd806f>Barring another change of heart and certain conditions to be met, Elon Musk\u2019s acquisition of <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> looks set to go ahead, prompting the question of whether some or all of the changes he initially hinted for the platform will become a reality.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The platform is a popular communication and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> tool for crypto enthusiasts, users and investors, not to mention crypto scammers, with the social media platform seeing roughly 120,000 tweets per day about #Bitcoin alone, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bitinfocharts.com\/comparison\/bitcoin-tweets.html#3m\">according<\/a> to BitInfoCharts.<\/p>\n<p>Looking back at Musk\u2019s initial commentary when he proposed a buyout of Twitter could shed some light on what changes he envisions for the platform. <\/p>\n<p>This includes a focus on free speech, eliminating spam bots, fake accounts, an edit function and possibly even crypto payments have all been <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1518677066325053441\">considered<\/a> and could still be on the agenda if the deal goes through. <\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Spam_bots_and_fake_accounts\"><\/span>Spam bots and fake accounts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>One potential area of focus is around Twitter\u2019s alleged spam bots. <\/p>\n<p>During a TED talk in Vancouver in April, Musk said that if his offer to buy Twitter were successful, a \u201ctop priority\u201d would be the elimination of spam and scam bots from the platform, noting at the time: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cA top priority I would have is eliminating the spam and scam bots and the bot armies that are on Twitter.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThey make the product much worse. If I had a Dogecoin for every crypto scam I saw, we\u2019d have 100 billion Dogecoin,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>He has proposed to topple them by \u201cauthenticating all humans,\u201d and even made the statement \u201cwe will defeat the spam bots or die trying!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Issues relating to spam bots later became one of the key arguments Musk used to try and walk away from the deal. <\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Free_speech_and_return_of_Trump\"><\/span>Free speech, and return of Trump?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Musk initially <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1518623997054918657\">addressed<\/a> his stance on free speech in a tweet back in April, stating at the time, \u201cI hope that even my worst critics remain on Twitter, because that is what free speech means.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the months since, he has not publically changed his stance and elaborated on what that could mean for the platform, including a return of former United States President Donald Trump, who was permanently banned from Twitter following the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot.<\/p>\n<p>He <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1524881263470993435\">stated<\/a> in a May 13 tweet that while he thinks Trump should probably not run for president again because he is \u201cdivisive,\u201d Musk does think he should be \u201crestored to Twitter.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Algorithm_made_public\"><\/span>Algorithm made public<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Musk has also thought about making Twitter\u2019s algorithm accessible to the public, even <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1507041396242407424\">creating<\/a> a poll that ultimately saw over one million votes and had 82% of respondents saying \u201cYes\u201d to the proposal. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not entirely clear what Musk has in mind but it could mean allowing the software to be open for public inspection and allow users to read the code, use it for their <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lications and make suggestions for changes to how it works. <\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Other_ideas\"><\/span>Other ideas<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Other ideas have either fizzled out or have already been implemented, such as plans to use blockchain <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> and charging 0.1 Dogecoin (DOGE) per tweet or retweet, which Musk later said would not be feasible. <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Musk\u2019s deal for Twitter looks set to go with original $44B price tag<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Musk also had the idea of adding an edit button and long-form tweets.
