While the company isn\u2019t disputing the firings, Peloton executives told analysts that comments that CEO Barry McCarthy made in an interview were \u201cmischaracterized\u201d by the paper.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the Peloton executives insisted that The Journal overdramatized McCarthy\u2019s comments \u2014 and claimed that the CEO never said the company had \u201csix months.\u201d Peloton executives likewise claimed McCarthy is a \u201ctrue believer\u201d who is optimistic about company\u2019s future and confident the job cuts will work, sources said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/Barry-McCarthy-45.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Barry McCarthy\" class=\"wp-image-24148630\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/Barry-McCarthy-45.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/Barry-McCarthy-45.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/Barry-McCarthy-45.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Barry McCarthy joined Peloton earlier this year. <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Journal ended its report on a cheery note \u2014 with a quote from McCarthy that said, \u201cI can see in the numbers the business starting to change course\u2026 which is part of what gives me confidence when I say that I think this is the last step in the process.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Peloton execs griped that the upbeat quote got buried at the end, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>The damage-control operation \u2014 a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of strategically placed calls to big banks like Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan that got launched before the opening of trading \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared to work. Peloton shares initially spiked as much as 6% to $9 despite the Journal\u2019s report that the job cuts were a \u201clast bid for a turnaround.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The stock recently changed hands at $8.72, up 2.8%, in early afternoon trades.
