Of course, modern <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> consoles take the opposite path. They look and feel like computers, all the way down to their overly-complicated and disorganized operating systems.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, the NES didn\u2019t have an operating system. But what if a time <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>er went back, held a gun to someone\u2019s head, and demanded a desktop OS for the NES?\u00a0A developer named Inkbox, who clearly lacks a time machine, decided to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UTWK_bIJf1U&amp;t=655s\">bring this idea to life<\/a>.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=\"UTWK_bIJf1U\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/UTWK_bIJf1U\/hqdefault.jpg');\">\n<button type=\"button\" class=\"lty-playbtn\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"lyt-visually-hidden\">Play Video<\/span><br \/>\n<\/button>\n<\/lite-youtube>\n<p>Inkbox\u2019s operating system for the NES, called <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/notin.tokyo\/nesos\/\">NESOS<\/a>, utilizes a Windows-styled GUI. And while NESOS is\u00a0<em>very<\/em> constrained by the NES hardware, it\u2019s still fairly impressive\u2014there\u2019s a functioning word processor, a toolbar, multiple desktop background options, and desktop shortcuts for files.<\/p>\n<p>Now, you could probably argue that NESOS is more of an <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lication than an operating system. It can\u2019t load new software or perform the complex tasks that define DOS, Windows, macOS, or popular Linux distros. But it\u2019s still an interesting experiment.<\/p>\n<p>I should also mention <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/3K_1GRTab4U\">Family Basic<\/a>, a Famicom (Japanese NES) application that allowed users to write and save BASIC programs to cassette. While Family Basic isn\u2019t an \u201coperating system,\u201d it\u2019s an interesting example of how Nintendo participated in the PC market during the mid-1980s. With this context, NESOS doesn\u2019t feel like such a crazy idea.<\/p>\n<p>You can test NESOS for yourself using an emulator. The ROM is available at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/notin.tokyo\/nesos\/\">Inkbox\u2019s software page<\/a>.
