\u201cThe Democrats\u2019 pundit class\u201d is painting Joe Biden as \u201ca soothing moderate,\u201d notes National Review\u2019s Dan McLaughlin, while at the same time \u201cloudly telling the Bernie\/Warren\/AOC wing of their party\u201d that he will push its \u201cradical agenda\u201d if he wins. And it\u2019s \u201call out in the open,\u201d with columns headlined, \u201cHow Joe Biden is moving left while still being seen as a moderate,\u201d \u201cJoe Biden\u2019s Platform Is More Progressive Than You Think,\u201d \u201cHow Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders joined forces to craft a bold, progressive agenda\u201d and many more. The very people \u201cchamping at the bit to implement\u201d these left-wing ideas are \u201choping that voters won\u2019t notice until the election is over\u201d \u2014 but they \u201cdo know we can read,\u201d don\u2019t they?<\/p>\n

DNC review: Dems Stoop to a New Low<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cPolitics ain\u2019t beanbag,\u201d but what happ<\/a>ened at the DNC this week was \u201cbeyond detestable,\u201d rails Joseph Curl at The Washington Times. Not when Michelle Obama claimed \u201cchildren are torn from their families and thrown in cages,\u201d presumably by President Trump & Co. Or when convention speaker Ashley McCray advocated the \u201cdestruction of capitalism.\u201d Or Gov. Cuomo, who \u201cutterly failed\u201d to stem COVID in New York, saying it was the president\u2019s fault. \u201cNo, the truly reprehensible moment came from a speaker\u201d who blamed Trump for her 65-year-old father\u2019s COVID death after visiting a bar. \u201cDemocrats have now dropped to a new low,\u201d fumes Curl. They\u2019ll blame the president for \u201cevery single death of an American\u201d from COVID-19. And they\u2019ll keep doing it right \u201cuntil Election Day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Education beat: Remote Learning Is a Joke<\/strong><\/p>\n

Virtual schooling is \u201cnot fine,\u201d Emily Gould thunders at The Atlantic: \u201cIt\u2019s horrible, a form of psychic torture.\u201d Gould coached her \u201c5-year-old son Raffi through virtual schooling in the spring,\u201d and saying it \u201cdidn\u2019t go well would be an understatement.\u201d Online learning was \u201cjarring\u201d for Raffi, who \u201ccried, screamed, hit his parents, hit his brother, broke things and spat a cup of juice.\u201d At the same time, he wanted to \u201ctalk to his classmates directly, to hug them and hold hands with them and fight with them.\u201d His virtual kindergarten in the fall will probably be another \u201cbattle\u201d \u2014 and even \u201cthe best-case scenario,\u201d while not as \u201chorrifying,\u201d will be \u201cdefinitely sad\u201d for him. As for Gould: \u201cI\u2019m not sure how long or how hard I\u2019m prepared to fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Foreign desk: Trump\u2019s Resounding Realism<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Trump has been \u201cremarkably successful\u201d in foreign policy, thanks to \u201chis ability to identify America\u2019s national interest clearly and pursue it without regard to outdated ideological investments,\u201d argues Daniel McCarthy at The American Conservative. The Israel-United Arab Emirates deal he brokered is the latest example of his \u201crealistic diplomacy,\u201d which \u201cis not about making everyone happy.\u201d Trump killed Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani, \u201cwhose life\u2019s work was the exportation of war and terror,\u201d but didn\u2019t retaliate against Iran for downing a US surveillance drone, refusing to \u201cengage in needless killing in the service of ideology or pride.\u201d He\u2019s succeeding where his predecessors of both parties failed \u201cbecause he is transactional, not ideological, and he looks out for the American interest \u2014 which is peace through stability \u2014 rather than trying to bring about peace through perfection, as ideology and technocratic hubris demand.\u201d<\/p>\n

Media<\/a> watch: The Death High That Wasn\u2019t<\/strong><\/p>\n

The pandemic is \u201cno excuse for journalism as sloppy and misleading\u201d as an Aug. 13 ABC News<\/a> coronavirus-death report that \u201csimply wasn\u2019t true,\u201d warns Reason\u2019s Nick Gillespie. In it, \u201cthe anchor solemnly intones that the \u2018United States is reporting the highest number of deaths in a single day.\u2019 \u201d In reality, as the onscreen graphic showed, the deaths \u201crepresent the deadliest day \u2018since mid-May\u2019 \u201d \u2014 something \u201ca less-than-attentive viewer\u201d will miss. A \u201csimilarly misleading\u201d Bloomberg News headline Sunday claimed about a \u201c10 times more infectious\u201d coronavirus strain, which turned out to be the strain already prevalent in Europe and the US. Now more than ever, establishment media are issuing \u201ca hodgepodge of anxiety and apocalypticism.\u201d The rest of us need to \u201cinoculate ourselves\u201d against it.<\/p>\n
