They always say \u2018Fauci was responsible for closing schools.\u2019 I had nothing to do [with it]. I mean, let\u2019s get down to the facts,\u201d Fauci told ABC News.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Numerous studies have shown that school closures contributed to unprecedented learning loss\u00a0in K-12 students.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0Department of Education study\u00a0released last month found that average reading scores for 9-year-olds fell five points and average math scores fell seven points in 2022 compared to scores in 2020. Average\u00a0scores on the ACT college admissions\u00a0test by the class of 2022 were 19.8 out of 36, the lowest score since 1991.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During the height of the pandemic, Fauci routinely emphasized the need for schools to stay open while hedging that it may be necessary for health officials to close down schools in areas with high infections.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In August 2020, Fauci told the Washington Post that the \u201cdefault principle should be to try as best you can to get the children back to school,\u201d but that local authorities in states with high infections \u201cmay want to pause before they start sending the kids back to school for a variety of reasons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not the first time that Fauci has admitted to some mistakes by the government. He said at the Texas Tribune festival last month that\u00a0\u201ccertain aspects\u201d of the government\u2019s response\u00a0to the coronavirus pandemic were \u201cbotched.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough you have to be aware and not deny that there are deleterious consequences for prolonged periods of time for keeping children out of school, remember, the safety of children is also important,\u201d Fauci said.\u00a0\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
