Backtrack feature using the Compass <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a> on your Apple Watch. You can also add waypoints to your watch face as a complication. This feature is available for Apple Watch <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Series<\/a> 6 and newer devices running at least watchOS 9.<\/p>\n<p>Find your way back to locations, retrace your footsteps, or set a bearing and follow it with Apple\u2019s redesigned Compass app in watchOS 9. Apple initially showed these features off on the top-end Apple Watch Ultra, but you can also put them to use on the more basic models.<\/p>\n<p>To access the full suite of features, you\u2019ll need an Apple Watch Series 6, Apple Watch SE (first and second-generation), or an Apple Watch Ultra running watchOS 9. If you have an older Apple Watch, you\u2019ll need to buy a new Apple Watch that supports these features.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure you\u2019re running the latest version of watchOS by opening the Watch app on your iPhone and then (on the \u201cMy Watch\u201d tab) navigating to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> &gt; Software Update.<\/p>\n<p>The Apple Watch Series 5 was the first Apple wearable with a compass sensor inside it, but Series 5 owners will miss out on Waypoint and Backtrack (despite the Series 5 being compatible with watchOS 9).<\/p>\n<p>Apple warns that the compass sensor in all models may be affected by magnetic interference, particularly when used with some bands that rely on magnets. This includes Apple\u2019s Leather Link, Leather Loop, Milanese Loop, and pre-2019 Sport Loop. Be aware that third-party watch bands may also use magnets.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Set_Waypoints_on_Your_Apple_Watch\"><\/span>Set Waypoints on Your Apple Watch<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To set a Waypoint on your Apple Watch, launch the Compass app, then tap on the \u201cWaypoint\u201d icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen.<\/p>\n<p>Tap on the \u201cLabel\u201d field to give the location a name, then scroll down and choose a color and icon. At the very bottom of the screen, you can also toggle the \u201cShow Waypoint\u201d option to hide or display the location on your Compass dial.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-839422\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/mark_waypoint-1.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Mark Waypoint on Apple Watch compass app\" width=\"650\" height=\"262\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>If you enabled \u201cShow Waypoint,\u201d the location will now appear on the Compass dial. You can scroll the Digital Crown while viewing the compass to change the view to get a better look.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_note\"><p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Waypoints you create will be displayed on the Compass dial as long as you are within 50 miles.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You\u2019ll also find your Waypoints listed in the Compass menu, accessed using the button in the top-left corner of the screen. Tap on a Waypoint to edit its label, color, or icon. To do this, head to Settings &gt; Action Button on your Apple Watch and choose \u201cWaypoint\u201d from the list that appears.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Add_Waypoints_to_Your_Watch_Face\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_2\">Add Waypoints to Your Watch Face<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve created a Waypoint, you can place it on an Apple Watch face as a Complication. If you do so, you\u2019ll be guided toward your Waypoint with a small pointer whenever you look at your Apple Watch face. You can do this with the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/838241\/how-to-find-your-parked-car-with-an-iphone-or-apple-watch\/\">Waypoint that\u2019s automatically created for your parked car\u00a0in the Maps app too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <strong><em>How to Add Complications to Your Watch Face on Apple Watch<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can add this Complication just as you\u2019d add any other. Launch the Watch app on your iPhone and then (on the \u201cMy Watch\u201d tab) tap on your current watch face. It\u2019s also handy if you\u2019re always forgetting where you parked since you only need to raise your wrist and glance at your watch for a reminder.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Use_Backtrack_to_Retrace_Your_Steps\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_3\">Use Backtrack to Retrace Your Steps<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Backtrack is a feature that records your route so you can easily find your way back to where you came from. The feature isn\u2019t active all the time, but <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/newsroom\/2022\/09\/apple-reveals-apple-watch-series-8-and-the-new-apple-watch-se\/\">Apple stated<\/a> in the feature reveal that Backtrack may turn on automatically if you\u2019re off-grid (away from Wi-Fi and known locations).<\/p>\n<p>To start tracing your route manually, open the Compass app, then tap on the Backtrack icon (looks like footprints) in the bottom right corner of the screen. The button will change to a \u201cpause\u201d icon to indicate Backtrack is running.<\/p>\n<p>Tap on this icon again, then choose whether to \u201cRetrace Steps\u201d or \u201cDelete Steps\u201d from the options that appear.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-839427\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/start_backtrack.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Start Backtrack on Apple Watch\" width=\"650\" height=\"262\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>If you choose to retrace your steps, the compass dial will display your route. You can also start Backtrack by pressing and holding the Side Button on your Apple Watch and moving the \u201cCompass Backtrack\u201d slider to the right.<\/p>\n<p>Your Apple Watch may record route data automatically when you\u2019re off-grid. To attempt to access this data, tap the Backtrack icon to see if a prompt appears to use historical location data.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Set_Your_Bearing_in_the_Compass_App\"><\/span>How to Set Your Bearing in the Compass App<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You can also set a Compass bearing on your Apple Watch, measured in degrees. When you do this, you will see additional information on the Compass dial to guide you in a particular direction of your choosing. The bearing always points in the same direction until you erase or change it.<\/p>\n<p>To do this, launch the Compass app and tap on the menu button in the top-left corner of the screen.
