Jim Clyburn, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/23165543\/the-trump-administrations-unprecedented-campaign-to-control-cdc-and-politicize-public-health-during-the-coronavirus-crisis.pdf\" class=\"icon none\">said in the 91-page report. \u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       It was the third such investigational report by the subcommittee on the previous administration\u2019s handling of the pandemic. The first report found that Trump <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/coronavirus.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/select-subcommittee-releases-new-findings-detailing-trump-administration-s\" class=\"icon none\">sought to prevent health experts from speaking publicly <\/a>on the crisis and the second alleged that he <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/coronavirus.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/clyburn-fda-trump-navarro-hatfill-report\" class=\"icon none\">engaged in a \u201cknife fight\u201d with the Food and Drug Administration. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Officials interviewed senior leaders at the CDC including Dr. Robert Redfield, its former head, and heard that Trump officials blocked the agency from offering information to the American public early on in the pandemic. <\/p>\n<p><strong>See also: <\/strong>Trump properties charged excessive rates to government, House Democrats say<\/p>\n<p>Other findings in the report include that aides: \u201cinstalled political operatives who sought to downplay the seriousness of the pandemic and retaliated against career officials who contradicted Trump administration talking points; overruled scientists to weaken multiple CDC guidance documents and to exploit and counteract CDC\u2019s public health authorities to achieve political goals; attempted to manipulate the content and block the publication of CDC\u2019s scientific reports and destroy evidence of such political interference; and diverted taxpayer money away from CDC to inject overtly pro-Trump slogans into public service announcements about vaccines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Redfield said the process for developing guidance \u201cgot complicated\u201d during the pandemic and that it gave him \u201cPTSD.\u201d He also said in a transcribed interview for the report that White House officials in the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) effectively had veto power over CDC\u2019s coronavirus guidance, explaining: \u201cWe didn\u2019t get the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roval usually to issue the guidance until OMB gave it a thumb\u2019s up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read also: <\/strong>COVID-era \u2018baby boom\u2019 marks the first major reversal in declining fertility rates since 2007<\/p>\n<p>Clyburn told MSNBC\u2019s \u201cRachel Maddow Show\u201d on Monday that CDC scientists were \u201cnot prepared to have to deal with political interference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir job is to simply do the research, do the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a>, inform the public, and then hopefully the leadership will be there by the politicians to do what\u2019s necessary to protect the public. As of Oct. 17, mainland China had confirmed 256,268 cases with symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Researchers seeking treatments for long COVID are eager to see whether low doses of naltrexone, a generic drug typically used to treat alcohol and opioid addiction, can help, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/healthcare-pharmaceuticals\/addiction-drug-shows-promise-lifting-long-covid-brain-fog-fatigue-2022-10-18\/\" class=\"icon none\">Reuters reported separately. <\/a>The treatment has helped Lauren Nichols, a 34-year-old logistics expert for the U.S. Department of Transportation in Boston, who has been suffering from impaired thinking and focus, fatigue, seizures, headache and pain since her COVID-19 infection in the spring of 2020.
