As a result, the department will provide leave and reimburse travel and transportation expenses for service members and their dependents.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cSince the Supreme Court\u2019s decision [to overturn Roe v. Wade], we have heard concerns from many of our Service members and their families about the complexity and the uncertainty that they now face in accessing reproductive health care, including abortion services,\u201d Austin said in the order.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of the procedure itself will not be covered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe practical effects of recent changes are that significant numbers of Service members and their families may be forced to travel greater distances, take more time off from work, and pay more out of pocket expenses to receive reproductive health care,\u201d Austin wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cIn my judgment, such effects qualify as unusual, extraordinary, hardship, or emergency circumstances for Service members and their dependents and will interfere with our ability to recruit, retain, and maintain the readiness of a highly qualified force,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Military providers on-base can\u2019t perform abortions, and military health insurance doesn\u2019t cover abortion, even if it\u2019s obtained from a private sector doctor. The Hyde amendment prohibits federal funding being used for abortions except in the case of rape, incest or threat to the mother\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p>The new memo lays out new privacy protections for service members, and also directs the Pentagon to establish protection for military providers so they won\u2019t face criminal or civil liability from state officials, or risk losing their license for performing official duties. The department will also work to develop a program to reimburse <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>licable fees for Pentagon health care providers who wish to become licensed in a different state to prevent that from happening.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The memo stated that all actions will be completed no later than the end of this calendar year, \u201cto the maximum extent possible.\u201d\n<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
