Until this election is over, I\u2019m not going to focus on \u201924,\u201d Clyburn said at a campaign event in Charlotte for Democratic Senate candidate Cheri Beasley. \u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) have also sidestepped questions about whether Biden should run for a second term. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not going into politics about whether the president should run or not,\u201d Pelosi told CNN last month. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Schumer has only said he will support Biden if he chooses to launch a reelection. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clyburn\u2019s silence on the prospect of Biden running for a second term is notable because the South Carolina lawmaker\u2019s endorsement in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary was seen as critical to Biden winning South Carolina with more than 48 percent of the vote. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s decisive primary victory over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) helped him wrap up the nomination. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The president\u2019s national <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roval rating now stands at 42 percent, according to the most recent Gallup tracking poll, and Democrats acknowledge his unpopularity is a major headwind for Democratic candidates. \u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Beasley, a former state Supreme Court chief justice who is trailing her Republican opponent in the polls, also declined to say whether Biden should run for another term.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t imagine he\u2019s going to ask me about that,\u201d she said\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Instead, she called on Biden to deal with 40-year-high inflation. \u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI really hope that right now what he\u2019s focused on is addressing rising costs for folks here in North Carolina. This is a critical issue for folks who live here,\u201d she said. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clyburn said he\u2019s also waiting to see how Election Day shakes out before making any decision about running for the House Democratic leadership \u2014 perhaps the job of Speaker or minority leader if Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) retires at the end of the year or if Democrats lose control of the House. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no idea until this election is over. I think it would be foolhardy for me to talk about what my future is going to be when I have no idea what the supporting cast is going to be. If you\u2019re in the majority, that\u2019s one thing. If you\u2019re in the minority, that\u2019s another thing,\u201d he said. \u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Pelosi promised to serve only two two-year terms as Speaker when she faced a tough race to serve in the top House leadership job after the 2018 midterm election.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clyburn and House Majority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) have made it clear to reporters that they don\u2019t feel bound by Pelosi\u2019s promise to step down from leadership after 2022, and now there\u2019s some question as to whether Pelosi will let go of the Speaker\u2019s gavel if Democrats keep control of the House. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Most political prognosticators, however, say that Republicans will likely win the House majority next month.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A group of younger House Democrats are calling for generational change across they party\u2019s leadership. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been very vocal, including with my own leadership in the House, that we need a new generation. We need new blood, period, across the Democratic Party \u2014 in the House, the Senate and the White House. I think that the country has been saying that,\u201d Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), who is in a competitive reelection race, said on NBC\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press\u201d earlier this month.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clyburn, who is 82, said he\u2019s not bothered by calls for \u201cnew blood\u201d in the Democratic leadership.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s fine with me. The caucus makes its intention known. When I first ran for whip, they told me that no Southerner \u2014 especially no Black Southerner \u2014 could \u2026 be an effective whip.
