\n It didn\u2019t take long for the Cincinnati Reds to suspend announcer Thom Brennaman, who made a homophobic slur on a hot mic during the Reds\u2019 doubleheader against the Royals on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Cincinnati Reds organization is devastated by the horrific, homophobic remark made this evening by broadcaster Thom Brennaman,\u201d the team said in a statement. \u201cHe was pulled off the air, and effective immedia<\/a>tely was suspended from doing Reds broadcast.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier, during the first game<\/a> of the doubleheader, Brennaman, who works for Fox Sports Ohio, said over the hot mic \u201cOne of the f-g capitals of the world,\u201d before reading a promo, app<\/a>arently not realizing he was on air the entire time.<\/p>\n

The 56-year-old delivered an on-camera apology during the second game of the doubleheader, acknowledging that his broadcasting career may be over and then was pulled from the booth. Fox Sports Ohio announcer Jim Day took over the broadcast.<\/p>\n

\u201cI made a comment earlier tonight that, I guess, went out over the air, that I am deeply ashamed of,\u201d Brennaman said during the fifth inning. \u201cIf I have hurt anyone out there, I can\u2019t tell you how much I say from the bottom of my heart, I am so very, very sorry.<\/p>\n

The Reds also said they will address the team\u2019s broadcasting situation in the \u201ccoming days\u201d, and that Brennaman\u2019s comment does not represent the organization and the team has a \u201czero-tolerance\u201d policy for views like it and apologized \u201cfor anyone who has been offended.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn no way does this incident represent our players, coaches, organization or our fans,\u201d the statement read. \u201cWe share our sincerest apologies to the LGBTQ community in Cincinnati, Kansas City, all across this country and beyond.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
