<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       NASHVILLE, Tenn. \u2014 Former Federal Reserve vice chairman Roger Ferguson says the U.S. central bank will continue to hike rates multiple times this year, but at a slower pace, and that the economy is headed to a recession.<\/p>\n<p> Expecting more tightening, Ferguson said during the annual Mortgage Bankers Association Conference in Nashville, Tenn., on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       Ferguson expects a 75-basis-point hike at the Nov. 1-2 policy meeting, then 50 basis points in December, and perhaps 25 basis points early next year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI fear that if I\u2019m wrong, it\u2019s because I\u2019ve underestimated how much more they have to do,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day, we\u2019re likely to see a shortened, shallow recession at the end of next year,\u201d Ferguson said. \u201cNot upbeat, but [I\u2019m] here to be honest with you.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Ferguson also said that he expects the 10-year Treasury yield to go up to 5% and only come off from that level very slowly. The 10-year<br \/>\n        TMUBMUSD10Y,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.000%\" channel=\"\" class=\"\">4.094%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       is currently trading just above 4%.<\/p>\n<p>And if \u201cthe next CPI report is really high,\u201d then there may be Fed officials who may want to push rates even higher. <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Got thoughts on the housing market?
