He told\u00a0<strong>Piers Morgan<\/strong> in their wide-ranging interview that\u00a0<strong>Quentin Tarantino<\/strong> had stolen the idea from him after he pitched it to star <strong>Jamie Foxx<\/strong> as the idea for his music video for 2005\u2019s <em>Gold Digger<\/em>. He claimed:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cTarantino can write a movie about slavery, where actually \u2014 him and Jamie \u2014 they got the idea from me, because the idea for \u2018Django\u2019 I pitched to Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino as the video for \u2018Gold Digger\u2019\u2026 And then Tarantino turned it into a film.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is just how Ye works. He calls himself a genius in all forms enough and eventually he believes it \u2014 and grows to believe he\u2019s the author of everything he likes\u2026 in his own mind anyway.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: Inside Kanye West\u2019s Donda Academy CHAOS!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The claim is obviously somewhere adjacent to the truth \u2014 but Tarantino tells it quite a bit differently. The filmmaker guested on\u00a0<em>Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/em> on Thursday night, and the host had to ask about the boast. QT stated unequivocally:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThere\u2019s no truth to the idea that Kanye West came up with the idea of <em>Django<\/em> and then he told that to me, and I go, \u2018Hey, wow, that\u2019s a really great idea. Let me take Kanye\u2019s idea and make Django Unchained out of it.\u2019 That didn\u2019t happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He says he\u2019d been toying with the idea for\u00a0<em>Django Unchained<\/em> \u2014 which is named after the cowboy character played by\u00a0<strong>Franco Nero<\/strong> in many a spaghetti western \u2014 \u201cfor a while before I ever met Kanye.\u201d So what did happen with the <strong>Yeezy<\/strong> founder? They met when the hitmaker \u201cwanted to do a giant movie version of <em>The College Dropout<\/em>\u201d and was pitching to giant-sized music videos to Hollywood powerhouses:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSo he wanted to get big directors to do different tracks from the album and then release it as this giant movie\u2026 not videos, nothing as crass as videos, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a>, they were going to be movies based on each of the different tracks.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Quentin says he thought of the project pitch as the mutual fans\u2019 \u201cexcuse to meet each other.\u201d But Ye \u201cdid have an idea for a video\u201d that he liked, and it\u00a0<em>did<\/em> feature Kanye playing a slave:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI do think it was for the <em>Gold Digger<\/em> video, that he would be a slave. And the whole thing was this slave narrative where he\u2019s a slave and he\u2019s singing \u2018Gold Digger.\u2019 And it was very funny. It was a really, really funny idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAnd it\u2019s like a huge musical. I mean, like no expenses spared with him in this slave rag outfit, doing everything, and then that was also part of the pushback on it. But I wish he had done it. It sounded really cool. Anyway, that\u2019s what he\u2019s referring to.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What\u00a0<em>did<\/em> happen with the video? Kanye and Jamie, who sang on the chorus of <em>Gold Digger<\/em>, starred in a much less ambitious video by\u00a0<strong>Hype Williams<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kanye West - Gold Digger ft. Like the dentist, the Klan scene, Broomhilda, Calvin Candy, the entire movie? Everything other than it being \u201cabout a slave\u201d? Nah.<\/p>\n<p>BTW, the idea Tarantino and Jamie Foxx took the idea together makes no sense. QT famously intended for\u00a0<strong>Will Smith<\/strong> to play the lead, but he turned it down! Jamie only got cast after!<\/p>\n<p>We can\u2019t say we\u2019re surprised, tbh. To say you have to take what Ye says with a grain of salt these days is doing a disservice to sodium.
