\n A federal judge on Thursday shot down President Trump\u2019s bid to hide his tax records from the Manhattan District Attorney \u2014 the latest blow to the president in his legal battle to keep the records from public view.<\/p>\n

In the ruling, Judge Victor Marrero dismissed an amended complaint by the president\u2019s legal team, who claimed District Attorney Cy Vance\u2019s subpoena of his tax returns was a fishing expedition and \u201cwildly overbroad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vance is reportedly investigating Trump for hush-money payments made by his 2016 campaign advisor Michael Cohen to women who claim they had affairs with Trump.<\/p>\n

The president\u2019s lawyers argued the subpoena of his tax returns is overbroad, in part, because it is not confined to the payments made by Cohen \u2014\u00a0an argument Judge Marrero rejected in his ruling Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn general<\/a>, the President\u2019s allegations fail to adequately rebut the presumption of legitimacy that accords to grand jury subpoenas, even at the pleading stage,\u201d Marrero wrote.<\/p>\n

He added that Vance is \u201cunder no obligation to affirmatively describe the scope of his investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this summer, the Supreme Court shot down an app<\/a>eal by Trump\u2019s lawyers seeking to block the release of his tax documents in a previous complaint filed by his lawyers against Vance\u2019s subpoena.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President is neither absolutely immune from state criminal subpoenas seeking his private papers nor entitled to a heightened standard of need,\u201d Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the opinion.<\/p>\n

Hours after the ruling was handed down, Trump\u2019s lawyers filed an emergency appeal of the decision to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
