href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/resources\/emissions-gap-report-2022\">with \u201cno credible pathway\u201d in place <\/a>to keep the global average temperature increase below 1.5 degrees Celsius, the United Nations reported Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Although a flurry of climate reports brought a glimmer of good <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> this week, the United Nations said only an im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>te and \u201csystem-wide transformation\u201d can deliver the enormous cuts <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/unfccc.int\/news\/climate-plans-remain-insufficient-more-ambitious-action-needed-now\">needed to greenhouse gas emissions by 2030<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The reports are timed to get the attention of world leaders before the U.N.\u2019s annual climate summit \u2013 COP27 \u2013 starts in Egypt on Nov. 6.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do the groups say needs to h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en?<\/strong> Slash emissions by as much as 45% by 2030 to curb rising temperatures and avoid catastrophic consequences from more intense and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lancetcountdown.org\/about-us\/interact-with-the-key-findings\/\">longer heat waves<\/a>, droughts and other severe weather disasters. \u201cLoss and damage from the climate emergency is getting worse by the day,\u201d said U.N. Secretary-<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Antonio Guterres.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>What can people do? <\/strong>Eating less beef and pork, taking\u00a0the bus, and protecting forests and mangroves are <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/climateactiontracker.org\/blog\/closing-the-emissions-gap-a-climate-action-roadmap-to-limit-warming-to-1-5c\/\">among many options suggested <\/a>as ways to contribute to the systemic changes urged.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can the world meet the goals? <\/strong>It\u2019s an enormous challenge, but a vital necessity, said Petteri Taalas, secretary-general of the World Meteorological Organization. \u201cWe need to transform our industrial, energy and transport systems and whole way of life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is the news all bad? <\/strong>No. Learn more about the findings below.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"presto-h2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Greenhouse_gases_rising_but_ozone_hole_improving\"><\/span>Greenhouse gases rising, but ozone hole improving<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/public.wmo.int\/en\/media\/press-release\/more-bad-news-planet-greenhouse-gas-levels-hit-new-highs\">All three of the main greenhouse gases<\/a> in the atmosphere \u2013 methane, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide \u2013 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/public.wmo.int\/en\/media\/press-release\/more-bad-news-planet-greenhouse-gas-levels-hit-new-highs\">reached new highs last year, <\/a>the World Meteorological Organization reported this week. Methane concentrations saw the biggest yearly increase since regular measurements began 40 years ago and carbon dioxide levels were higher than average over the past decade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are heading in the wrong direction,\u201d Taalas said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, there was good news\u00a0in the stratosphere:\u00a0The ozone hole over Antarctica continued a declining trend,\u00a0the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong style=\"margin-right:3px\">Fall election in the U.S.: <\/strong>Climate change is on the ballot in the midterm elections: Here&#8217;s what&#8217;s at stake.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"presto-h2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Not_enough_progress_on_emissions\"><\/span>Not enough progress on emissions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/unfccc.int\/news\/climate-plans-remain-insufficient-more-ambitious-action-needed-now\">2030 emission projections <\/a>improved slightly over last year and\u00a0emission increases could stop entirely by 2030. Climate Change executive secretary.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"presto-h2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%98Report_card_finds_progress_too_slow\"><\/span>&#8216;Report card&#8217;\u00a0finds progress too slow<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The use of zero-carbon energy sources like wind and solar is growing, but the percent of electricity produced by renewables isn\u2019t, concludes a non-U.N. report by the World Resources Institute and seven other organizations. The report says that is because electricity generation overall is increasing.<\/p>\n<p>In total, their <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/3ba9815ebeb3\/global-climate-report-card-finds-some-progress-but-action-across-all-sectors-must-accelerate-dramatically-to-limit-warming-to-15c?e=17c037dadc\">\u201cState of Climate Action 2022\u201d report card<\/a>\u00a0looked at 40 indicators, accounting for about 85% of all greenhouse gas emissions globally\u00a0and couldn\u2019t find any on track to meet 2030 targets.<\/p>\n<p>They found:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a027 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/climateactiontracker.org\/documents\/1083\/2022-10-26_StateOfClimateAction2022.pdf\">moving in the right direction <\/a>but far too slowly<\/li>\n<li>\u00a08 that couldn\u2019t be tracked<\/li>\n<li>\u00a05 that need U-turns, including miles <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ed by passenger cars, fossil gas used in electricity production and the loss of mangroves, which store carbon and protect shorelines.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong style=\"margin-right:3px\">Protecting forests: <\/strong>Trees can&#8217;t outrun climate change. Should humans give them a lift?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The group found a few \u201cencouraging signs.\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/climateactiontracker.org\/documents\/1083\/2022-10-26_StateOfClimateAction2022.pdf\">Solar generation, for example,<\/a> grew by 47% between 2019 and 2021 and electric vehicles account for almost 9% of passenger car sales.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"presto-h2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Is_there_any_more_positive_climate_news\"><\/span>Is there any more positive climate news?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The good news is that the world is already on the path to decarbonization and isn\u2019t starting from zero, said Bruce Usher, a professor of climate and business at Columbia University.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have these new climate solutions, primarily renewable energy and electric vehicles, that are already commercially competitive and available at scale,\u201d said Usher, who will be attending COP27.<\/p>\n<p>Catastrophe is by no means inevitable, he said. \u201cIt\u2019s absolutely not hopeless. There\u2019s a very clear path to keeping temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius, it\u2019s absolutely feasible. We have the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> and we have the investment.
