Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared in eight for the Astros heading into Monday\u2019s Game 3 of the World <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Series<\/a> against the Phillies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a long way from the injury-plagued disappointment Montero was for most of his tenure with the Mets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Montero signed with the Mets as an international free agent from the Dominican Republic in 2011 and was ranked as the organization\u2019s fifth-best prospect by Baseball America in 2013, despite not having signed until he was 20 \u2014 very late for an international prospect.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The right-hander made his MLB debut with the Mets on May 14, 2014 against the Yankees at Citi Field, but never found consistent success in Queens, battling injuries and ineffectiveness \u2014 while shuttling between the majors and the minors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"690\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/1437603461.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Rafael Montero\" class=\"wp-image-24461678\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/1437603461.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=2048 2048w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/1437603461.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1536 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/1437603461.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/1437603461.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Rafael Montero is now a key part of the Astros bullpen. <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There were some highlights, including one run in six innings, with 10 strikeouts, against Arizona in his third career start and another solid outing versus the Cubs later that season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And in 2017, Montero pitched 8 \u00b9\/\u2083 scoreless innings in Cincinnati, one of the high points in a season that saw Montero pitch in 34 games before Tommy John surgery kept him out of 2018.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>He performed well in small doses with Texas in 2019 and 2020 before another down season in Seattle in 2021 before he was included as an afterthought in a trade to the Astros in July \u201921.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But Montero was effective before a lat injury ended his season with Houston and went on to have his most successful season in the majors, compiling a WHIP of 1.024 in 68 \u00b9\/\u2083 innings over 71 games.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now 32, he\u2019s allowed just four hits and four walks over eight innings during the playoffs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis offseason was kind of a question mark of what he would come in [as] in spring training,\u201d Houston pitching coach Josh Miller said in a Zoom call on Sunday. \u201cWe had expectations, but we didn\u2019t really know what he would come in as. And he came into spring and was pretty good. He added a couple other pitches. [He\u2019s] very calm in his demeanor. \u2026 He never gets shaken.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Montero was acquired by the Astros as part of a package that also brought Kendall Graveman from Seattle. Montero has been designated for assignment before the trade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Graveman was effective for Houston after the trade and was excellent in the team\u2019s run to the World Series before signing with the White Sox as a free agent.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And now Montero, along with closer Ryan Pressly, Bryan Abreu and Hector Neris have formed a bullpen that could get the Astros a title.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
